Out with the old...in with the wooohoooo!!!!

Ottawa, Ontario

« on: April 09, 2018, 11:59:38 AM »

Hi Guys,

I decided that my 1" bars looked too small on my bike, so I did up some new ones with 1-1/4" bar.  They look nice and beefy compared to the old set.

In the picture you can see the difference between the 1" bar used for the hand grips and clamps and the 1-1/4" bar used for the arms.

The bars were just tacked in this picture and have since been tig welded by my cousin and primed.

Nice to have the skills and equipment.   cooldude

I bet someone on here would jump on your old ones.  Unless you keep spares.

Once I make sure that these ones are good and I like them then I will let the other ones go.

Can I ask, how tall are you, and how much pullback did your current bars give you compared to stock? If you decide to sell them, I'd be interested, but want to know that they'll really solve my issues. I'm 5'6" for reference. Thanks.

Hi Turboyoshi,

I am 5' 11".

The bars that I made give me about 8" more pullback from the OEM bars.  The OEM bars are 8" long and these bars are 16" long.  They allow me to sit back in my seat and the bars come to me, I don't have to lean forward to reach for them.

I will give you first dibs on the bars.  Don't forget though, that you will have to lengthen the wires for the switches on each side, brake & clutch hydraulic lines and throttle cables.

Here is a picture of me on my bike.

Hey Bscrive,

I knew I'd have to get longer cables but if that's the only change I need to make I'm ok with it. This is the same size as oem bars, right? Just making sure the oem grips and stuff will fit properly. Do you remember what length cables I'll need to order? Thanks.

I will check tonight for the brake and clutch line length.

As for the throttle cables.  You need to take yours off and send them to Motion Pro and ask them to make new ones that are 7" longer than the OEM ones.  They don't keep anything in stock for the Valkyrie and make them on the fly.

The electrical wires just need to be spliced and wires added in.  I just cut my wiring harnesses at the halfway point and soldered in 8" pieces with shrink wrap on each wire.

Hi Turboyoshi,

The OEM brake line is 21" long.  I added 8" for a total length of 29"
The OEM clutch line is 52.5".  I added 8" for a total length of 60.5"
On both the clutch and the brake lines there is a 45-degree banjo end that connects to the masters
On the clutch line it has a straight banjo end that connects to the slave cylinder
On the brake line it is a block to screw in the other brake line that goes to the line splitter for the front brakes.  You can see this connection on the right side of your bike at the steering neck.

update:  here are the pictures of the ends.

Thanks bscrive! Great info. When you say I have to take my old cables off and send them out, why can't I just specify the length I need for my new cables?
My bike is my only transport so can't have it out of commission for more than a day or 2.

They don't have anything on file to go by.  That's why you have to send in a set of cables, so that they can recreate them in a longer length.
If you decide to do it.  I can send you my old cables at the same time I send the bars.  You can send those to Motion Pro and then when Motion Pro sends them back to you, you can send them back to me.  cooldude

I forgot to mention that your grips and controls will fit right on.  I made it out of 1" bar.

That's if you can get off your left grip.  I pretty much destroyed mine taking it off.  Good thing I had new Avon grips to put on.

I got the new bars on my bike and everything else put on.  I think I may have made these ones a tad longer because I had to modify the banjo bolt at the clutch master for the line to be long enough.  It was a minor setback and for a little while I thought I might have to buy another line that was 1/2" longer.
The thicker bars look better on the bike.  I took a few pictures, but you really can'r see the bars in the garage.  Too many black coloured objects.  I would take the bike outside for a picture, but mother nature thought it would be funny to dump 4" of snow last night and give us almost an inch of freezing rain by tomorrow morning.
I am sitting at my computer listening to the freezing rain hit our windows and the wind howl.  It's a temporary setback.  It is supposed to get a lot warmer by the end of the week, but now we have salt back on the roads and we need some good heavy rain now to clean that off.  Maybe that will happen this week.  It was a good day to work on the bike in my garage.  It's heated and very comfy for doing stuff.

Turboyoshi, can you pm me with your address and I will get you a price on shipping the bars to you.  I need to find a good box to ship them in.
