At least one of you guys out there must have gout every now and then Wink  Are you on any medicine to control it and does it work for you?

I have been have a few bouts of this lately.  In my ankles (the right one right now and can barely walk).  The funny part is since I had the stents done last August, I pretty much have been good on the food (very little red meat, no shellfish, low fat, low cholesteral, etc.),  and have cut my alcohol intake way back (although at the last breakfast I was probably still inebriated Smiley ) but in general, way less that it used to be.

So being good and am getting gout.  It was much better being bad.  Maybe some of the medicine might be having an effect because before last August I never took any medicine, but not likely that is going to change now except the Brilinta later this summer.

I have been trying to drink more water and also have been taking some organic apple cider vinegar.

The doctor wrote me a prescription for Uloric but of course my insurance does not cover that one (and it is about $315 for 30 days).   I am sure he will be looking at something different tomorrow because that is not going to fly.

Any thoughts?

I take allopurinol to keep my uric acid in check. Been working great for about 10 years. After insurance it only cost me $3.89 for a 90 day supply.

I have a friend that is an avid outdoors man, works construction always in the vertical position, maybe early forty's. Had it so bad last year had to buy another pair of boots larger size.
He actually took a lay off for the winter, saw him 3 weeks ago. changed his diet and NO more alchohol.
Seems to have cured issue. Not sure of meds I will ask next time I see him. Ironically his brother who had a terrible diet plenty of alcohol and overweight never has suffered from it.

I thought I remembered you having an issue before.  Did it not flair up when we went to Tennessee for the InZane?

Thanks for the info on the Allopurinol.  I was looking through the various medications and that is one that is covered!.

The alcohol can be a trigger.  Going to "none" is probably not going to happen as I like a nice glass of wine with dinner once in a while Wink  Like you said, it is funny how different things affect different people.   My brother and brother in law are big beer drinkers and have issues.  Go figure.

Thanks for the info.

Yup... my foot was so swollen that I couldn't wear my boots. Limped everywhere on that trip. Sad

I did have a gout problem years ago,but I stopped taking hydrochlorothiazide after getting back from Vegas and a week of pain. When I checked it out via the internet it said could promote gout.I called my doctor told him of my findings and have not had a bout since. I feel your pain, good luck. Oh yes I did google that name.
