After a good ride and warm up I'm noticing an "oil canning pop" sound a few seconds after i shut her off.  No issues with fuel flow while riding, but I'm guessing it's the tank?
Sounds like heat expanding an empty barrel, once or twice.

Any ideas?  Runs fine so I'm guessing the cap is venting fine while on..
Thanks guys

Has something changed, like has the bike been sitting and now your riding again, or has some kind of work been done to the bike recently? This noise everytime, once in a while?

Do all the fluids look good and topped off? Wondering if oil, coolant, brake fluid is too hot?? I've heard oil boil in hot engines, not a Valk.

Using antifreeze, correct?

Cruise control? Vacuum canister that could cause noise?

Don't think the air box could be flexing or partially stopped up?

Don't sound like a small backfire such as fuel leaking in exhaust?

Any type of amplifier or electronic equipment that could cause a noise?

Just noise ideals, wide range since I can't hear it from here, let us know!

No unusual work done recently,  been out a few times in the last month...

Today I parked it with a full tank and didn't hear the sound.
Last week it had under a qtr tank when I heard it, twice.
Maybe it was a fluke?

Ill burn this one down and see how it goes..
(Captain obvious:  top off at the end of the day!)

Thanks for the feedback

Check for a pinched or blocked tank vent line.  Disconnect it at the lower T and blow air up into the tank with the cap open...other direction too. Was the tank ever creamed or rust preventative coating added?

If it happens consistently with a full tank, have a spare key in the tank and open the filler just before you shut it off. See if it still does it.

Burned about 3/4 of the tank and noticed it does it regardless of fuel level.  Incidentally, the tone of the "pop" does not seem to change with relative volume of gas...but I'm not a musician tickedoff

Thank you for the suggestions,  I'll zero in on the venting this weekend and see what happens.

I'm not noticing any performance/mpg change so maybe I'm barking g up the wrong tree.  Just don't know of any other metal area on the bike large enough to make such a low tone when it cools off.

Could it possibly be the seat pan?
I am somewhat...yuuuuge.

I can see it now.  While you all are out riding this weekend I'm going to be sitting on my creeper, ear to the bike, hollering at the family to keep it down as I try to hear my bike speak to me.

If you didn't know you can use a plastic handled screwdriver. Put the blade against the metal part of the bike and the handle to your ear. Works like a stethoscope.
