I have an opportunity to buy a 98 Tourer Black and green. It has 24 K on it and is in great shape .
I was wondering what would be a resonable price and if I should be aware of anything on this bike ?
Thanks

I would do a good inspection on it and test ride. Maintence records are a plus if the guy has them. Exspect to pay between $6,500-8 depending on the bike. You can tell if the bike has been keptup or not. Most valk owners keep there bike 100% all the time and you have to look hard to find a bad one. If you do buy it will be the best bike you will own. You will not be disapointed

Samb,
I bought a '98 Std about 2 months ago. It had 2,300 miles on it and I paid $6,750. I had a 5000 mile trip planed and expected to take my VTX1800. Knowing that the Valk would be smoother, I bought an Ultimate seat and took her. BEST decision I ever made. The valk was amazing. I had no regrets what so ever. The VTX sits most of the time because I love the Valk.
Times are very bad, make an offer if it's in good shape. It is truly, an amazing bike I think you will love it..........

SAMB, N.A.D.A. list a 98 Tourer ; Low retail $4,560 , High Retail $5,995 . That does not refelx our market for Valk.`s . A 24,000 bike should bring about $6,500 if it has been well cared for, and needs nothing. Deduct for tires, ECT. Good luck. BTW, a lot depends on your local.

First of all W E L C O M E ! I would offer him 5000 and see what happens. You don't know until you ask. But, like Spirited said, the NADA book is only a guide. Most Valks go for more. Good luck, and again Welcome. Hay Jimmyt

Thanks for the input and the welcome . The bike is in Indiana and I am in Arizona , but I know the people and have seen the photos. I would belive it to be well cared for. I own a Venture currently and have 100 K on it , but I always turn my head when a Valk goes by.

Negotiate a good price and never look back. All you have to do is look at the Mobile 1 oil thread to see some Valks with well over 100k miles on them and still going strong! Hay Jimmyt

I bought this one in september w/ 24k on it and I would agree that you could get one for anywhere between 6k-8500 my opinion. First day I had it drove it to my sister's and my niece fell in love with it... I had to give her a candy bar to get off my seat!!! You will love it!

Where in AZ are you. I live in Mesa and go to the Pavillions on Sat nights. I could bring the Valk and talk to you for a while.

Welcome aboard.
Price is also in the eye of the beholder. I fell in love with my bike and bought it even though it had a higher than normal price tag.

Samb I just bought a 98 Tourer in July '09 and it had 5k miles on it , I failed to look at NADA I figured I got a Smoking deal at 7k Guy threw in a Cover and Front wheel Kryptonite Lock , Gloves, and it had over 3k in Upgrades from Tranny Covers, Spark Plug Covers, Floorboards, Heal Toe Shifter, Upgraded Seat, V Stacks, New Tires. Too Much to list in Chrome. Now I See a post here that NADA shows I over paid per say, Im now worried how my Insurance will pan out should I need it one day. I feel you could get one between 5k and 8 k depending on how nice it is. I feel I am way ahead of the game for my purchase, but still worries me about Insurance. I guess a trip to the insurance man is in the near future.

Thanks woefman... I really wasn't looking to buy another bike but a fellow vrcc member that I had the privilege of riding to InZane with this past year sent me a link w/ this bike for sale and it was about an hour away. I was slobbering at the mouth and finally couldn't take it anymore... He was a fellow member here and I told him I would buy it and I couldn't find it in me to ask for a better offer... It came w/ over 8k in chrome parts, a larin jack, the sub steel frame by Ross, all the oem parts the black side covers (chrome one's are on it), butler drinking cup, baker's airwings (in a box), extra chome light bezels, a case of amsoil and cleaning supplies..... progressive rear shocks.. and ultimate seat, break away throttle lock, and many more.....
He told me to make sure I come up with a vehicle to take all this stuff with it.... I couldn't believe it... I took my old neighbor with me and he rides a harley and couldn't get over what i was getting... I couldn't either..
When I went to get a cashier check from the bank some of the ladies at my credit union couldn't believe the year and how pretty it is... They said that if I wanted to sell it to let them know they wanted their husband to buy it.
It was my personal birthday present cause the next day was my bday!!!
If the gentlemen that I bought this from is searching the board thank you for my bike and she is being well taken care of!! I paid 7500 for her!
