That's the model tire I've used for over 175,000 miles on Valkyries and an ST1300.

good tire in rear and I use the Shinko 230 tourmaster in front, both work well and for price paid cannot be beat since last just as long as dunlop or avon cobra from my experience. I refuse to spend near double for a tire that will not last nor stick to pavement any better.

I would refuse to pay double as well, but that hasn't been my experience. I just purchased a 150/80R17 Avon Cobra for $220 CAD, all in with free shipping from FortNine. Shinko's price for their tire is $170 USD... which translates to $220 CAD. Not sure if Shinko charges for shipping. That said, the Shinko looks like a great tire (with a very comparable tread design), which I wouldn't hesitate to go to.

Just recently took off a Shinko 777 White Wall in 140-80-17 after 24500+ miles and just replaced it with another Shinko 777 White Wall in 140-80-17. Used/using B Bs as my balance media. Bit over 2 OZs. Cut a section out of the old tire near center as I could git and while I have NOT measured the thickness just eye ballin it appears to be 5/16" thick or more-off the USED 24500+ mile tire. And rather have the Shinko than ANY dunflop. RIDE SAFE.

I just ordered/received a set of Shinko 890's "$260 delivered", looking forward to getting these mounted up. I am quite the Shinko fan, run them almost exclusively on all of my V-stroms......awesome relatively inexpensive tires, which easily rival much more expensive offerings.

Okay boys on the strength of this thread I just ordered me a Shinko. I got 16k out of my last rear tire which was a Dunflop so maybe I can match that or do even better with a Shinko. I'll keep you posted

Yeah I got that tire sitting in my shed. it's a car tire right? I couldn't get anybody to mount it a couple of years ago so I'm just sticking with motorcycle tires I guess

Not even a small independent place? You took the wheel and tire in? Tell them it's for a trike.

I use this front Shinko on my Tourer. I also used these tires on my ST1300 for about 75,000 miles. About 6,000 miles for the rear and about 8,000 miles for the front.

Wow I think 6k for the rear is really lousy. I hope to do much better than that, but going back to the champiro, I started calling around to all the shops and they all said no they wouldnt mount it because of liability. I know I could probably take it to some shady place that mounts car tires and they would do it. I just lost interest, ended up buying a tire that one of the bike shops had on a rack and said go ahead and mount it.

6k on the ST1300 for the price was good. Other tires at double the cost maybe 8/9,000 miles if strict right hand control.

Shinko's are softer tires in my experience. That is what gives you the grip. They do last a little less mileage but, as Britman said, the cost is 50% and the lifespan is 75% PLUS WAY more grip...I'm in.

honestly, I wouldn't have gone with the Shinko if I'd known it's only good for around 6k. for me, it's more about all the hassle of having the bike up on the lift and out of commission, taking the wheel to a shop (then waiting for a few days), not to mention the work of cleaning, re-greasing and reinstalling everything to get it back up and running. I'd rather pay another 60 or 80 bucks to get longer life from a tire. next time I'll probably go with another Dunflop (maybe even another Bridgestone), unless this Shinko lasts a lot longer than your guys experience.

Shinko Journey's front and rear. I am at 24,000 Km (14880 Mi) and from the tread left I will get another 10,000(6200) Front and about half that Rear. That Honda ST must have issues with low mileage like that.

the reason I have to wait 2 or 3 days is cuz the place I take it to which is fairly reasonable for mounting and balancing has a big backlog this time of year. This is the Seattle area after all.

Find a new place. And for all those getting 1,000,000 miles plus on those tires how many miles are on a jack stand with the rear in the air and not touching the ground? Inquiring minds and the like. I have never got to 10 k on a valk tire. Yes tire pressures are checked and correct. I probably could have gone 10k on a few. But they feel like crap dont handle well or anything......Saftey first....glad yall have cotton roads to ride.

I've run the Dunlop 404 front this time around and am at 13,000 and counting. Michelin Defender on the rear 15,000 with 13,000 of that carrying two full saddlebags, and a 40# tour bag and still many miles to go. Might give the Shinko a go round for the next front tire, but have been a dark sider since 2010 and can't see going back. I have no problem getting the car tire mounted at 2 - 3 different places.

Believe it or not it's the best place around to get a motorcycle tire mounted and trust me I've checked. But as far as mileage I've got 16k on a rear tire a Dunlop and that is not very much freeway riding at all it's mostly secondary roads with twisties and man I tell you what up here in the Pacific Northwest they are not cotton roads. Washington state is one of the rockiest states in the union which is why half of our windshields have cracks in them an after thought about that Dunlop, it says E3 on it so I don't know what that says about its composition but I've never broken traction so it's got good grip ( and I ride through the winter months which are very wet here ), and well it's actually bald at 16K that's why I'm changing it

If you can get 16K out of any cycle rear tire you done really, really good.
10K is about my limit on any rear cycle tire. I would think 8-11K is about average, but road material plays a bigger part I think than twisting the throttle a lot. The darn sharp pea gravel coating on roads is a lot worse than blacktop which is buttery smooth.

Yeah 16k is a new record for me I think I've been averaging about 12 to 14 and that's been bridgestone's and other dunlop's. I totally agree about Road surface. I remember this one ride we took last summer we were on gravel for like 30 miles and all I was thinking was this is tearing up my tires to the max!

FYI here's that tire that I got 16 K on and it's a different Dunlap than I've run before the E3 stands for Elite 3. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F331444477015. After this Shinko I just bought wears out I'll probably go back and buy one of these E3s again, or else I'll try again getting that car tire mounted

Follow up on the Shinko: I had it mounted and this time the shop only took one day to do it, but the tire's lousy. vibrates like no other tire I've ever run, almost can't wait for it to wear out! I'll never buy another one. Check out the post more recent than this entitled "something's changed for the worse" you can read there at least one other person's got the same bad experience with Shinkos.
