The fundamental flaw in this rig is that the perp can get both hands around the rider's throat, then slam his head into the bars, repeatedly.  Or throw up all his beer and wine on him.  And worst of all, with a right hand holster (most common, and even flapped), he can get that pistola while the guy is busy riding.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
