Not sure why some of you can't see the posts on his page. Here is the link I use.

Here goes my story (minus pictures)A few years ago I had a local shop clean my carbs and instal the larger slow jets for me. I also used the same shop to have a new set of SS throttle cables installed. Sometime there after my throttle play felt tight, I thought it was probably a cable adjustment. Adjusting helped some but no real snap back when releasing it. I lived with that, never real happy and blaming the ss cables for too much resistance. Then about 2 weeks ago I had a massive gas leak coming from my fuel rails. I had had this happen before and figured they would swell up and stop leaking. They never did. It was time for me to act on this. I had lost my faith in the cycle shop so decided to do it my self. After reading every possible post on the subject I ordered the kit fromred eye and then started tearing sown to the carbs from the inside. I decided to use the "slide back the #5 and #6 carb method to access the fuel and air rails. Worked like a charm. Don't remember who posted that method, but it sure saved me from taking the whole carb assemby apart. I buttononed everything back up, started her up and found the throttle way worse then before I had to manually turn the throttle back and forth. Not good. Then she started popping at idle. When I gave her some throttle she popped more at a faster rate. After searching for that elusive air/vent leak and coming up empty and adjusting and lubricating the hell out of my throttle cables, I was out of options. :'( I felt like maybe she needed a carb sync, after all she is going to have her 20th birthday next year and has never had her carbs synced. I noticed a post from Ricky D regarding what he called a loafing cylinder that would require a carb sync. So I thought I'd do a carb sync.....only I don't own a gauge. So I thought I might start fiddling with the carb adjustment screws a little toi see if I could reduce the popping and backfiring. My first look at the springs told me something was wrong.

I took pictures of what they looked like and posted them on Big BF's facepage. He confirmed that that was indeed not the way the springs should look. The upper spring on the 5 and 6 sync screw had migrated over the tab of the carb (here's where I wish you could see my pics). Apparently the cylcle shop I used did not reassemble my carbs correctly and I made the situation worse, unbeknownst to me, by moving the carbs back and forth to change out my 4 sets of o-rings. Bill told me how to remove the spring without loosing it. Turn the carb screw out until it bottoms out then work that little bugger free, all while holding the throttle at WOP. Not as easy as it sounds and you need tiny little hands to get the MF back in the correct position. After struggling with it, I finally won the battle. Skinned knuckles and all. Got 'em both in correct position. Started her up and.............. she kept stalling(I had flooded her by holding the throttle wide open while I installed the springs. I could smell it. I waited 30 minutes and she fired right up. Throttle was like the day I bought her snapping right back. No popping or backfiring. She smells like she's burning rich, but that's either because she is in dire need of a carb sync (Bill is coming to see me this fall I think and said he would take care of it) or still got some extra gas in the carbs from my operation. Now if I could only ride. The Valk Whisperer came through for me from 2000 miles away

Thanks to all that post solutions. Backyard mechanics like me really appriciate the info. I hope this post helps some one out in the future and they don't have to go through the anguish and frustration I went through.
Sorry for the long post. Glide-on>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
