About the film One Crazy Ride:
A motorcycle expedition on uncharted roads across the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh, situated in North-east India. But more than an expedition, it's a film on friendship, camaraderie and the "never say die" attitude of five motorcyclists in the face of unforgiving terrain.

Shot with no back-up vehicle or film crew, in parts of India hardly seen, filmed or explored, the documentary captures the interactions and experiences of the riders who are trying to chart a route, which according to everyone does not exist. about the film Riding solo to the top of the World: Riding Solo... is an award winning film about filmmaker Gaurav Jani's solo motorcycle journey from Mumbai to one of the remotest places in the world, the Changthang Plateau in Ladakh, bordering China. As a one-man film unit, he astonishes you, filming the landscape he passes by and the people he interacts with, capturing moments of beauty, pain, love, hardship, self doubt and spiritual triumphs.

Dad forwarded me the info on the motorcycle movies in Ashville, NC. Movies that my friend from Dehli had recommended some time back. So, earlier in the day, my wife and I walked up to mom and dad's house and asked if he wanted to go to Ashville to watch the movie. He said he didn't think so.

A few moments ago he called and asked if I was going to Ashville tomorrow for the Sunday afternoon movie. I told him I didn't know, I hadn't thought anymore about it. He asked what the plan was for tomorrow. I didn't have one. Hadn't thought about it really.  He asked if I would mapquest it and see how it would take us to get there from here.

Before I could sit down at the computer to mapquest the directions, Dad had called back to remind me to not take us through the rock slide (wrong side of Ashville).

He's called twice more before I could get the directions printed out.

Apparently he not only wants to go now, but is excited about it, ie Mom told him he could go.

Tomorrow we're going to grab some Sunday soup and then ride to Ashville. The weather should be good, so we're planning on taking the bikes. His goldwing hasn't been out of the garage in a few weeks. My valk is getting tired of only commuting.

Dad has had open heart surgery, and a valve replaced, and is on blood thinners, so it is possible that he'll decide it is to cold and want to take the van. Either way. Should be fun. Hopefully it will be fun on a motorcycle.

Big, spend as much time as you can with him.  My Dad passed away Christmas '06 and I wish I had spent every extra minute I had with him.

I'm fortunate that we are fairly close.
We have lots of memories together, and continue to make more.  Thanks for the advice.

post: movie ride report

My wife made a pan of cornbread while my parents were at church. We had a quick family meal, then Dad and I headed out to the bikes. We ran up 321 N to 40 W.  Dad pulled off on Exit 44 in Ashville and asked if I had saw exit 45. I was convinced the exit we needed was 43, so we headed on west. Turns out, after some map consulting in Canton, we wanted exit 50. In Canton (exit 37 on I 40) we had 10 minutes to make it to exit 50. We might have gotten close if it hadn't been for the road construction. Crawling speed.

We did manage to slip in to the movie already in progress. It was good (we only missed about 15 minutes). They did a Q&A after wards, then we hopped back on the bikes and headed back home.

When the light ran out we stopped at a waffle house and chatted about the movie. Then we came home.

The ride up was mid-70s. The ride back was still mid-60s.  Not bad weather at all for this time of year.

Memories.  cooldude
