The Long Way 'Round, the "official" Vermin Club Ride to the Valhalla Rally departs from our home at 06:00 sharp Thursday, June 21. Bikerboy will be riding over from the Peninsula on Wednesday and spending the night at our house. Maddog and Kitty will be joining us Thursday for the 06:00 departure. We slab it North to the Smokie Point rest stop, NB I5 exit 207, where we meet up with Bearjaws at 06:45.

From there we head for the North Cascades Highway stopping in Rockport at the Eatery Drive-in, 58439 State Route 20, 98283, for breakfast and our monthly club meeting. After breakfast we fuel up in Marblemount and head over the hill arriving in Winthrop around 11:30? After a butt brake in Winthrop, we'll wander North crossing at Osoyoos and head for Merritt.

There will be a new addition to the Valhalla Rally this year, my wife Linda, has decided to join us. I had to promise no triple digits or peg dragin'...we'll see...

I've crossed over that hill on three different occasions and I will attest, it's a really good ride!

Well... there will be a minimum of seven in the group, riding 400+ miles with numerous stops and one border crossing. Every stop with that many takes time, breakfast stop, fuel stops, restroom stops, find a large tree stops, sight seeing stops, lunch stop, photo opps, border crossing, waiting for Linda to get her helmet fastened, waiting for Linda to get her gloves on... it all takes time... do the math.

In an effort to not miss happy hour in Merritt, we're rolling out early. You're welcome to join us.

The stops sounds appealing.  I like enjoying the journey versus the saddle sore blur of our typical rides, lol.  I am hoping to shake this upper respiratory infection that has been lingering so I hope to make it.

My bike to bike communication consists of side by side riding, rapid hand gestures and lots of yelling, classic Vermin Club. I do use Bluetooth on the bike however, from my cell phone to my Garmin Zumo 590 GPS, I use a set of wired Shure ear phones from the GPS. Great sound from my playlist or Pandora and I know if someone calls but cannot answer, I'm OK with that.

No bluetooth here. On board intercom and a CB radio. I suppose you could go phone to phone with Kathy but I have no idea if that is any better than just texting , from the back seat of coarse.

After 34 years of 2-up riding with the Mrs using hand signals ... tap on the Right leg for hazard on the Right, Left leg for hazard on the Left; punch in the back for "Slow Down!!"; knock on the back of the helmet for "I've fallen asleep", and shouting back and forth (my IS I've had for the past 16 years has intercom but I've never liked to be connected with wires), we finally went with Sena 10's two years ago. They are fantastic. I still get the odd tap on the leg or knock on the back of the helmet, but the punches to the back have been eliminated Grin. I enjoy being able to talk to the Mrs when needed effortlessly, it's improved our longer rides in particular. Also works great for listening to music when desired, and we can each listen to our own play lists. Works great for the phone, however I never use it for that...I turn my connections off when I use my phone for music. Haven't used it yet for bike to bike communication, but it is compatible with other bluetooth headset brands and those that I've spoken to say it performs well in that respect.

IN at 16:30 after a lay-over at my sisters in Bellingham. Yes, we did make it across the border OK... thanks for waiting...

After getting back into the country, the Vermin scattered like rats! I did see Gina fueling her F6B, then we met John who had turned around looking for Gina... the rest of the DRBs disappeared like a fart in the wind!

The Valhalla Rally was a great success, thanks to our BC members for hosting another great event! cooldude

In at 1530 cooldude

Not so my padowan learner. We were all at the mobile station just over the boarder as you went zipping

by, followed by John who also missed our attempted waiving. John will attest, he came back and found us

all there. Cheesy

What a great trip cooldude

Glad to hear a Vermin Dash wasn't done.

Thanks for the In reports, as they come through.

No word from the Spokane group yet, but they left later and had a longer ride also.

Arrived safely at 1500 hours.   Lost you guys a couple of times.  Once to layer up while entering the Cascade mountains.  Lol, it was warm when we left.  Then I was running low on fuel.  Must have been partly because I left the choke open way too long. I was on reserve so stopped at the first station I found. I thought Madawg was stopping at the next gas exit.  Oh well had great rides all weekend. I especially like the ride though the mountains down Rt 5. The layered mountains were beautiful.  The long decent down reminded me how high up we really were, hence being cold.  But beautiful decent.  Rest of the ride was smooth and uneventful.

Merritt to Sumas is only 125.512 miles or 202km even the tourer should make that. I gave you a ten miles to go hand signal and I thought you gave me a thumbs up. Apparently I was mistaken...sorry.

However, just as a reminder, if you need to stop take the lead to take the group. Otherwise it's Vermin time   Evil and as always, ride your ride cooldude

Riding the same ride with my Standard tank, I switched to reserve at 145 miles, fueled at 175.

I usually hit reserve at about 125-130 miles.  Am I firing on all cylinders?  Never get 145 till reserve.

I’m probably stuffing more fuel in the tank. I fuel sitting on the bike, when I’m on the road I fill right to the top. This is not advisable if the bike will be parked in the heat but as long as you’re rolling down the road it extends your range.
