Why you need a lift. I've done mine just laying on the ground. I used a small box to hold the back end up and I just lifted the front and installed header nuts.

Put a small jack stand under the crash bars on both sides. Get the bike level. Loosen the nuts carefully. .Do not get in a rush. Support or tie up the rear of the pipe. Get everything started before torquing. You will have to re-torque the header nuts a couple times after a ride or warm up. Be sure to remove the old gaskets and install new.

Yes, as has been said, you can do exhaust work without a lift, but if you plan to do much of your own maintenance you'll need a lift for your Valk eventually--in fact, fairly soon, if you plan to put any miles on her.  You can do what I did--go to harbor freight and get the $100 one (rated for 1500 Lbs:  https://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-capacity-atvmotorcycle-lift-61632.html), and then use the shop talk procedure to make a lift adapter (http://www.herberts.org/wayne/valk/lowtechlift.htm).  You won't be sorry and you'll save lot of $ you'd have to pay somebody else to do your Valk maintenance.  Just my 1.5 cents  cooldude

Read this thread and then order MarkT's lift adapter that stays on the bike.

Be sure to really look for the old exhaust gaskets, they may be stuck in there and not appear to be any...I know from experience  LOL

I put mine on 3 years ago and love it.  just line up the jack and start pumping.  not a fan of the other permanent style, ie held on by two "L" bolts in the lower case.  it they ever loosened and it fell, you'd be in trouble rolling over it
