Looking to get a replacement windshield for my '99 Interstate. Would like to get one with a vent. Found this:

https://www.clearviewshields.com/motorcycle-windshield/honda/valkyrie-interstate-shields/

Two questions:

1. Any better/cheaper options out there?
2. Pros/Cons to a windshield with a vent?

Thanks for any input.

I'm in SE Mi about 35 miles from Toledo. I put a 2 inch shorter shield from Clearview with a vent
on my 98 Tourer.
I've always liked a vent being able to make small adjustments is a plus. I wouldn't go shorter on
the height again I can barely duck below the top of the shield in a heavy rain I'm about 6 ft. tall.

The interstate fairing has a vent below the screen. Are you wanting more ventage ?

Yes. Don't know if it's normal, but I get a LOT of heat off of my bike. More air would be great.

I do not like vents in windshields has its pros and cons though.

bug splats thru holes all over your face/helmet shield is the only drawback I see, and possibly any wind whistling noise.  On my I/S I use foam pieces to close those vents below my windshield on the fairing in the middle since bug splats coming thru I do not like plus wind was whistling thru it annoying me.

pros would be more wind coming thru and at night like in fog it would clear up the windshield quicker not fogging up as easily, or so I would think?

depends how tall you are, but the stock I/S windshield is near perfect for me being 5'10" but could do 2 inches higher tops is all would be fine as well, but harder to see OVER the windshield then since nighttime driving have fogged up a lot having to arch upward to see OVER the windshield since was totally fogged up unable to see thru

A number of fellows have added a Clearview vented shield to their interstates. (so they have said)

The vent under the shield is not adjustable and also directs bugs to my mouth from time to time.  So many of us have plugged it or screened it for bugs, but not for air.  But normal airflow is never in my face where I would like it in hot weather.

I wouldn't want the vent to block part of my view through my shield (I'm not very tall), but the idea of an adjustable vent to blow air right in my face sounds pretty good (about this time every year).  And also be able to close it in cold or rain (or following a hog truck).

I went looking for a picture, and can find their vents in a number of shields, but not on an interstate.  What struck me looking through this link (of pictures) is that the location of the vent in the shield does not look like it is necessarily standard.  Sure it may vary based on different bike designs, but many look like they are put right on top or just above the fairing dashboard, or on top the main center windshield cross brace, but on other bikes they are a bit higher.  Clearview has made two interstate shields for me, but I didn't ask for a vent.  I wonder if the buyer gets any preference in vent location (within reason)?  Obviously, you do not want it in your line of sight, but a taller rider would seem to benefit from a bit higher vent than a shorter rider would.

Bought the shield from Clearview they used to have sales I can't pass up a sale. My stock shield

I purchased a clearview stock size with the added vent on my 99 IS. The added vent is low and completely out of your line of sight and I am 5’4”. It is adjustable with positive clicks and can be shut off, wide open, or set at several angles going upwards. At first, I thought the extra money for the vent sounded high but I am glad I did it for added air flow. I am in South Texas, so added airflow is very much welcome. The adjustment lever is easy to use while moving and as I said, can be completely shut off if needed. My bother has Goldwings and said that the vent looks like an OEM Honda vent.

Bought a ClearView 7 years ago.  No vent.  Did get the 2" taller shield than OEM size plus the 2" wider sides.   do like it.

As far as the vent under the I/S windshield, it does provide some air movement, but also does wine a bit.  Have mind partially blocked.

I’ve heard this from many. My hearing must be worse than I realize. I’ve never heard the whining before.

I have a Clearview shield that i bought from another membe here.

It is not vented but is shorter than stock and delivers a good bit of air.

The vent in the fairing of an interstate is not for air flow to the driver, it is there to reduce buffeting.

With that said this guy will custon make you any winshield that you want and he will install the old Vetter style vents that do bring you air:

Behind the radiator is a black plastic air dam that directs the hot air. Many guys have had trouble reinstalling it after rebuilding the carbs. Some have said "screw it" and left it off. I ride in the desert, sometimes at 128*. The only time I get heat off the engine is if I have my feet on the Hiway pegs too close to the pods.

I just don't see the need for a vent in an Interstate windscreen.
