The old gal was on the lift all day after I got done in the shop.  While cleaning the rear wheel there was this strange groaning sound, not a scraping or metal to metal.......almost a metal to rubber sound whenever I turned the wheel.  It seemed to happen at the same point in the rotation, so I thought about it and then told myself.......HEY! SELF you have all the time in the world today.......so off the wheel came and I really saw nothing weird.  It was only a few hundred miles since the last spline lube.  So I cleaned things up a bit.....added a dab of grease on the female splines of the final drive and put it all back together most carefully (as usual) looking for anything that could possibly rub or cause a groaning moaning sound.  I thought "that plastic ring" well, its on correctly.  So shes all buttoned up and the sound is gone.....bearings are fine, all splines are fine.....I didnt remove the U-joint but the sound was deffinelty coming from the axle area.......Oh well all seems fine, ready to ride.  I guess she was just enjoying the rub down?  Shocked

Jeff, when you work on the big girl it's very important you learn to distibuish between a moan and a groan.   Wink

Yes, that seems crucial for proper care and handling........I just cant remember........one is good and one is bad right?  The moan must be good?  So the groan must be bad?  What is the indicated procedure if a groan is detected?  Extra lube seemed to do the trick?  I guess I should write that down........could become part of the advanced procedures for Valkyrie care..........

You said on the lift. I don't know what kind of lift you mean, could it be one that lets the rear hang down? Possibly turning the rear tire with the back end over extended? Just a thought.  Cool
