I scored a set of Honda Triple Tips a while back and have been debating installing them on my ‘99 Interstate. I have enjoyed the quiet of my unmolested IS pipes, but crave a little more sound. I have done loud pipes before coming from an Intruder 1400 V-Twin with pipes and don’t want loud or droning.

To install the Triple Tips, I will have to trim the piggies, since the IS piggies are longer than the Standard/Tourer piggies. I have read about cutting piggies producing a drone. Can anyone who has cut their IS piggies to install the Triple Tips advise me on the sound change? Does anyone have a clip of the sound?

Thanks!

They will fit without modification.  The sound will not change.
They are listed in the Hondaline accessory catalog as fitting all three Valkyries without mods.

Then they made a misprint. You'd have to cut the piggies to use them on an Interstate, and inside
of the giant triple tips, there'd be droning.

There's a way to use the triple tips and get the most quietness. Cut the piggies back to
where the difference between STD/Tourer and Interstate piggies starts. Replace the piggies
with your own little pipes that are straight. Your new piggies will line up with the "exhaust holes"
on the triple tips now. Cut your new piggies long enough to come all the way to the end
of the triple tips, or extend beyond if you think it looks good. Eliminating the "echo chamber"
and shooting the exhaust noise out into the great outdoors is about as quiet as you can
get on a Valkyrie.

I let my triple tips get rusty on the bottom. I think you should treat the bottom of your
triple tips like the bottoms of your headers: get down there and clean and dry them
when you wash the bike.

I did my IS by just trimming the IS Piggies as little as possible to fit the triple tips.
It did increase the sound slightly, but not enough to be an issue.

Some very low level drone or echo, but definitely not a problem and not loud.

I hate loud, those that road with me never noticed the change in sound.

You could bend (offset, s bend) the center piggy to clear the triple tips and leave them long.
It was easier to just trim them.

I had triples on my IS. Not much louder if any than stock.

Thanks guys. I ended up just cutting 5” off the piggies and bolting the Triple Tips right on. It may be my imagination, but maybe it’s very slightly deeper sounding, but it’s still nice & quiet. I am happy. I did not want it much louder, so this is perfect. Thanks for the comments.
