I put new Cobra 6 into 6 pipes on my 1998 Valk (sounds awesome!!)and was getting alot of browning or bronze discoloring on them near the header area .I think due to running rich as i didnt rejet or adjust carbs. So i purchased the rejet kit from Cobra and going to attempt installing. So i was wondering (although instructions came with the kit)if there r any words of wisdom 4 me   appreciate any comments concerns or info   thanx

I cannot help with the rejetting question as this is beyond my skill set, but you should understand the Cobra headers are single wall (not like double wall OE headers), so they are going to blue and discolor regardless of jetting.  (Rejetting may still be a good idea)

You will gain little from rejetting if anything but you will lose MPG.

If you are blueing the pipes, you are running lean, not rich. I did the same Cobra 6 into 6 mod as you months ago, and rejetted the carbs. Stock jets are 35 and 100, I installed 38 and 105s. Bike has 4000 miles on the pipes now, no blueing any where, runs strong, no popping, and only gave up 2 miles per gallon, and don't care. I didn't buy a Valkyrie for gas mileage.

Why not turn your air/fuel mixture screw out 1/2 or 3/4 turn like I did and solved the issue of running to lean. I have cobras with no baffles.

Not really sure as to how to access the air/fuel mixture screw.  Does it require taking the tank off?

If you let your bike sit idling or run it in the garage, then you will hasten the discoloration.  The pipes need air movement to keep the temps in check.

You can rejet with the carbs on the bike, but it is a lot easier to remove them and replace the mains and secondaries on the bench.  Get yourself a set of JIS screwdrivers or replace the bowl screws with the redeyetech screws since most times one or more get buggered during removal.  Apply constant downward force and the screws will let loose with a “snap” since they seem to get slightly welded in place due to dissimilar metals.

Good luck.  The needles can be easily accessed with the carbs in place.

Cobra six pack pipes are single wall construction and they will all discolor like that no matter how correct the jetting is.  But that shouldn't stop you from perfecting the mixture.  I didn't need any rejetting with the Cobras, but a K&N air filter leaned it back down to normal.

The pipes are bluing because you are running too lean, not too rich. Lean produces a lot of serious heat. Too rich will just carbon foul the plugs  …  too lean and you can loose the motor as a result of pre-ignition which can cause detonation.

The pipes will blue, that's what 6 pack pipes do. It's normal

No, that is not normal.... 4000+ miles of hard running on interstates, city street running stop and go, and snail running in parades and NO discoloration of any kind. If the pipes blue, you're running too lean.

You are talking about Stock pipes. They are double wall, not normal for them to blue. 6x6 will always blue.

No, I am not talking about stock pipes... I'm running single wall Cobra 6X6 pipes, read my first post.
