I was going to send out emails to everyone with a quick little thank you note, but I realized how long that would take and I can't keep my foot down that long just yet, it starts to throb too bad.

I have an appt with the doctor tomorrow to take out some of the stitches in my foot.  This was where they cut a flap to try and pull over, but then realized it would not work, not enough skin.

The hunk of skin they put on my foot seems to be healing, but it's still swollen.  The holes and cuts in my legs are healing as well, but they are still sore.  They had to take muscle from my leg to put in my foot.  They first tried the right leg and that one died, so they had to cut my left leg.  The skin graft is healing ok, it itches sometimes.

Beekeeper has been taking excellent care of me, he cleans my foot every day and helps me with everything, getting up, moving about.  I have a wheel chair and a walker.

I am going stir crazy.  I HATE not being able to come and go as I want, I hate feeling like a burden on others.  My kids have come over and helped out as much as they can, and that helps.

I've had visitors, peeps bringing food, magazines, books to read.  I just want things to get back to normal, I hate this with a passion.  I guess it is part of the healing process but I find myself having crying spells, pondering life, how much worse this could have been, hearing the cracking in my mom's voice when she said, ''you could have died''.....the look on their faces.....it gets to me.

I think of the accident and how much I was enjoying the ride, I mean, really, enjoying it.  Then I recall the seconds when things went wrong, how I just wanted to get off the road and out of harm's way, and not go over the cliff.  I saw my foot getting chewed up, but there was nothing I could do, I actually did not feel any pain when I did come to a stop.  I looked down at my boot and thought, ''that's not good'', but I sat there and waited for Beekeeper and Magoo to come back looking for me.

We found out later that there have been 6 deaths in that spot this year so far, I am glad I was not the 7th.

I can't put any pressure on my foot for another 2+ weeks.  Please continue to pray for a good healing,  The doctor said that if this would have happened 10 years ago, I would have lost my entire foot.  I am thankful for modern medicine

Thanks everyone for your calls, messages, emails, they have meant a lot to me.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is when you’re in pain the people you’ve taken care of all their lives finally have the ability to take care of you.  As much as you dislike others caring for you, accept the fact that they finally get the opportunity to show their gratitude for all that you’ve done for them in the past!  You should never feel as though you’re a burden to anyone that you have taken care of.  Accept the fact that they truly love you, and care for you.

Heal well.

Prayers and good Karma coming your way!!

I just joined this site a few weeks ago and am catching the tail end of what happened to you, so sorry.

Kinda know what your going through, my wife had a severe bike accident in Jan '06 on her way to work.  A cell phone talking, 18yr old girl "T boned" her on the left leg severly crushing it right above the ankle.  I'll agree with you, 10 yrs ago they would've taken the foot off at the first surgery but luckily there was two of the best Drs on call.
We did end up going to a specialist in Houston due to an issue with the bone healing (it was crushed so bad 1-1/2" of bone was missing) and he too was fantastic! We have a greater respect for the people in the medical fields.  It takes special people to do these jobs every day.

I understand about the daily cleanings too, not the most desirable event to do but something that has to be done.  It will get better, believe me.

You sound like my wife.  She was always on the go and this forced her to slow down to a crawl, tore her up.  But we got through it. There was a bright side however, if you can call it that.  While she was down she had a mamogram done and they found a malignant lump which she had removed.  Luckily it was small and didn't spread so all she had to have was radiation treatments.  This is doing well too.  I can't help to think that with her "on the go" lifestyle and a mamogram not the most enjoyable thing women have to do if this accident didn't slow her down this probably would've not been discovered until it was too late, who knows??

Although I'm no expert by any means I'll give you this advice, follow the doctors orders to a "T" and if you have any concerns discuss it with the doctor, no matter how small you may think it is.  And hang in there, it will get better!!

....Donna

. ...just wanted you to say that I didnt realize just how serious your injuries were...and how they have impacted you over all.....when I posted that picture of the guy with a chain saw I meant it totally ...tongue in cheek....just my quirky Idea of humor ..to try and make you laugh.....I would never make fun of someone who was seriously injured.....especially in a motorcycle related incident...so if I offended you or you thought I was making lite of your injury....please forgive me..

. ....Faith and I will both keep you in our thoughts and prayers....and as for you bike...there will always be other bikes.....your health is what is important....so stay on the road of recovery that you are now on, and dont fret too much about folks that love you enough to help you out in your day to day chores....just be glad that there are people in your life that care enough to reach out....

Behave yourself and be patient.  Your thoughts are normal for anyone going thru such an experience.

Good to hear from you Donna. Thanks for the update. It's great you have people to take care of you when you need them. And like Alph said, you've taken care of them before. It's karma. What goes around comes around. Hang in there and heal well. I've got money on you in that foot race between you and Joe.  cooldude

It's normal, Donna, or at least as normal as you and I are going to be.

I'm glad to hear you're healing.  Keep getting better.  Take the time you need to heal well.

Easy does it.

Keep your chin up girl!!..and let your loved ones help you out, just like you'd do for them if they needed it.....it will take a while to get back to 100%, but it will come....everything in life has some risk , and there are NO guarantees.....so you'd better suck the marrow out of life while you can...my biggest fear in life is to look back in 20 years and wonder "What If" I had done this?...or that?....and realize I missed out because of fear.....I think after you are healed up, you might be surprized to find that you want the wind in your face again..... cooldude

Glad things are healing. Now get to work. Write on the backs of pictures. Scan your favorite pictures. Re-organize your hard drive. Course you may have to buy a laptop so you can work from your bed or chair. Take heart and get well soon.

Give Faith my best and I hope to see ya'll at Inzane!
