It's time to replace my air filter on my 2014 Valkyrie, is there a site I can pull up that shows the steps to remove the silver cover and the tank, then replace the air breather with a K&N..??

Here's the manual page for the chrome cover: http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,102278.msg1019227.html#msg1019227Look on youtube for a power-commander install on a 1800 Valkyrie... the guy has to take off a bunch of stuff you'll need to remove. The gas line is pressurized, so there's a quick-release thing under the tank you'll have to manipulate properly... -Mike

I'm surprised so many still want to install K&N filters after some of the reports that have come out. I was installing them on my bikes and vehicles years ago but now I'm sticking with good quality paper type filters.

I've been using K&N air filters since 2007 I guess (K1200 R, K1200 GT, Valk), never had any problem. Asked the dealer to clean it last month (56,000 mls on the clock). But I don't ride on dusty roads.

Been tests even from years back that show the K&N lets more dirt thru than a good paper type filter. There are detailed posts on this forum regarding this. When you look at how much one costs plus the recharge kit it really doesn't make sense to use them. With an FI engine and all the sensors that control the fuel air mix there is little or no performance boost from those filters.

There is no real performance gain except that if the OEM filter gets dirty it could restrict the flow. As for the engines melting down or more dirt, as over rated as the gain in HP. What is nice is not to have to change it every 10k like the stock filter.
Any vehicle I have put a KN filter in has survived as long as needed and the vehicles I sold are all still doing well with KN. Now the oil filters is another story not bad just there are better filters cheaper available.

I have installed K&B's on every bike I have owned for at least 30 years-never had a problem. It may be just psychological, but they seem to promote better air flow. I bought a K&N for my Valk about 3 years ago but I have not installed it yet. I only put about 2000 miles a year on my Valk, so the stock filter is probably still ok, besides it is a pain in the neck to get to the filter- tank removal, ECT. However I will do it soon.

I've had K&N on 2 other motorcycles and one car over the years, never an issue. I don't ride in dusty areas and clean them on a regular basis. I looked on YouTube and found a video removing the tank on a 2014 Valkyrie to install a power commander, not very informative but makes it look easy, lol but we'll see. I have a shop manual coming next week for the Valkyrie, I'll attempt it. I'm gonna also replace the plugs, clean the crank case breather tube and replace the rear drive oil, all that looks easy, did it on my VTX and Yamaha Super Tenere, was an easy job...
