Hi everyone..was cruising today and running fairly hard in upper 80's Wisconsin weather..oil light came on and lost power..this has never happened before..oil level is good no leaks I can see..after about 10 mins it started again..rather roughly..but then ran fine ..I should add I just washed it last week and first time riding since then..tho it ran normal for a cpl hrs before this happened..also I think that as soon as it dies the oil light will come on? so maybe the oil light doesn't mean anything?  just odd as it has never just quit like that without stuttering or anything..any ideas are greatly appreciated..thanks

When the engine isn't running there is no oil pressure and the oil light will come on.  wish I could help with what caused it to quit  running

Maybe ran out of fuel?
If you do, it'll run rough when you first get it started again.
Petcock? Maybe needs to be rebuilt.
This is a fairly common needed maintenance procedure on our bikes.
If you do the peacock rebuild, wouldn't hurt to think about the vacuum lines as well or de-smogging, js.

Thanks Keitho..Actually I think that's what happened..I always reset my trip dial when I fill up..but  I did a longer ride.. wanted to know the miles.. the gas was low..but it has always coughed and stuttered enough to switch to reserve..I think the petcock is going..kind of set on a pingle..and should desmog..but not yet..
