We had a topic lately, which mentioned the JIL screws that are on the Honda motorcycles. This one just came up in goldwingdoc, and I thought I would link to it, along with some others, since so many things are the same on the different GL1500.

Plastic welding. Since GW have even more plastic than the Valks, this comes up more often there too.

just flatten the tip of a newer SAE phillips and it will work just as well. Even the top of the line ones harbor freight sells work much better.

Is the screw driver in the supplied tool kit a JIS or Phillips screw driver?

I wouldn't want to presume to name it, but it fits good on stuff like the screws
on the handlebar reservoirs. The toolkit also has a allen wrench that is
shortened, it fits up to the smog ports on the bottom of the engine. The
tool kits that some with our bikes seem to have all the right stuff in them...

Just as simple to go to Amazon and buy the JIS set... you can feel the difference when you use them.

If you look closely at a phillips and a JIS screwdriver , you can see the difference. The phillips is radiused and the JIS is cross pointed. The JIS looks like a plus sign. The angle is also different on the two screwdrivers. It is not a big expense to buy a proper set of screwdrivers. Also , JIS drivers will work in a phillips screw.

Here's an "articule" reviewing another JIS set:

And yes, the screwdriver in the OEM tool kit is JIS.  Another handy item in the tool kit is the thin wrench, which fits the locknut (#20, below) inside the top of one of the forks.  A regular wrench is too thick to fit.
