So...went through a divorce this past winter.  She took Everything!  Been going through what I imagine has been depression.  Lost all interest in riding...or anything else.  Sold my Std and I've only had my I/S out twice this summer for about 25 miles each time.  Got the I/S out the other day and it will hardly run at slow speed as you can imagine.  Had about 10 oz of Sea Foam and put into about 5 gallons of gas that was in the tank.  Over 2 days I've taken it out for a 10 mile ride each day slowly riding around back streets trying to get the Sea Foam to work through the slow jets.  So far it's not working.  The bike runs fine at higher RPM's.

I know Berryman's is more aggressive.  What are the thoughts of possibly adding this to the tank while I still have Sea Foam in there?  Or should I go with a stronger solution of Sea Foam.

Steve

I'd  ride it some more. 2 days is not a lot of time. If it was my bike I would ride where it doesn't stumble then  get  some premium Chevron and more seafoam in it once I run the gas that's in the tank out. I wouldn't expect to see results until a couple of tanks full of fuel are burned up. Better days are ahead.     cooldude

I've mixed my additives many times with no ill affects.

I'm not saying it will work for you, but it shouldn't hurt.

Maybe you should have dumped the tank first (esp corn gas).

(Sorry for your troubles Steve.  I have that particular T shirt.)

I used a lot stronger mix in mine, B-12 at first and now Techron.  It took about 50 miles to really notice a difference.

I would have dumped the old gas and started with a couple fresh gallons and additive.

I bought this bike new in 2000 and it has had nothing but ethanol in it 99% of it's life with no problems except now.  And I can't blame the gas, it's because I let it set.  It has ethanol free gas in it at this time.  Put it in last winter, and also a bit this spring to top it off.  I did this two winters ago when storing and noticed it started a little easier at first start up in the spring.

My last Valk purchase ran about like yours sounds to be. It took several different brands (Berryman's seemed to help the most) a bit over 1000 miles before mine ran right.

I've never been shy to mix Techron with B12 and load them very heavy (think a couple of cans in a half tank of fuel). Never had any luck with Seafoam.

I suspect the Feds pulled a fast one on the formula of their corn-crap gasoline. For 21 years my Valk laughed at ethanol, but no more. So far this year I've rebuilt 10 clogged carburators and I still have the snowblower to go...

Hopefully a chemical mix will clean out your pilot jets. I just finished a carb removal and complete rebuild. It took months. Next time I will simply remove the chrome intakes, drop the carb bowls in place, and screw in 6 new pilot jets.

All good advice.

After the carbs are running fine, Stabil Marine is your friend to treat the gas.

Mine I/S seat for 1 year and the carbs were not gummed up because I treated the gas with Stabil.

I run B-12 every once in awhile...bout 1/2 can to a tank...but then again, I start her up every day...I ride her every day and on the stormy days, just start her up and get her warmed up for about 10 min. and turn her off...This seems to be good for my Girl...Oh, by the way, there is life after divorce...heck, its a good way to lose weight...on the average about 12 lbs...Ride safe...!!!

Hang in there Steve K, it only gets better.  Sounds like both you and your girl (F6 type) just need more wind therapy.

Hey Bro,

Sorry to hear bout the I/S issues...  Try some StarTron, great stuff  cooldude cooldude  Drain the tank, and get some new 'go juice' in there. Add the StarTron, and point yer butt at my place  Wink  That should be good for multiple tanks, and maybe be enough to clear things up. The WI gang is planning a meet n greet  on Oct 7th in Baraboo...  If you come up on Friday before that, it will give me time to pour a few cocktails in ya, and we can do the 'Woman Haters Club' paperwork while we talk...

Hi Buddy,
Yes, the gas was fresh.  Tonight after a total of 47 miles over 3-4 days riding around a nearby industrial area in 2nd gear at under 1500 rpm's it finally cleared up.  Probably had at least 1 1/2 cans of Sea Foam in there...not real sure, kept adding it 5 oz at a time to 3 gal of fresh gas I had in it.  Anyway, it's back to the way it's suppose to be.  cooldude
I'll give you a call.

Steve,
I really can't say much about the above club, but I agree with Black Dog, swing east, the weather is supposed to be very nice the next couple weeks. You are lucky for a couple reasons, your bike is now running good, and you no longer have a wife to tell you NO.

If you need them cleaned really good get a can of this:

Drain the carb bowls and turn the petcock off.
Disconnect the fuel line from the tank and make an adapter hose that will fit over the nozzle of the can and step up to fit snug inside the fuel line.
Fill the carbs with the cleaner.  It foams up so you have to spray some then wait then spray some more.
Eventually it will come out of the carb vents.  Stop at this point because this stuff will remove the paint from your engine fairly quickly.
now let it sit for about 24 hours....
after waiting drain the carb bowls again.
now the really fun part.  Try to start the bike.  it will NOT want to run initially and when it finally does it will run like absolute crap.  it will smoke and puke and stink.  This will go on for about 20 minutes and eventually smooth out.
At this point your carbs should be absolutely spotless and shiny on the inside.  The slow jets should be ungunked good.
If this doesnt work you will need to pull the carbs and clean them mechanically

Pull the carbs. Thoroughly clean.  Replace the slow speed jets with new. Do a desmog. All problems past and present solved. With the Valk any way.

It's probably just seafoam.  There's lots of videos of doing this on cars and all the white smoke

Steve - I had a similar personal experience last fall.  After the dust settled, I decided to do something for myself - took my beloved blue standard to The Attic Rat for his performance work.   Amazing results that will bring out the stupid in you if you aren't careful!   Money well spent and better than talking to some therapist half your age whose only response is "well...what do you think?"   Take care.

I run a 1/2 can of Berryman's b12 to 1/2 tank of gas  every 2 months  through out the riding season. If it sits for more than a couple weeks I'll fill the tank and put a lite dose of marine stable .We have non ethanol premium locally now and I will use it for winter storage plus stable .
