Hi everyone..I just posted about a sputtering problem on another thread..I bit the bullet and ordered a pingle..still looking at thongs I felt that both 1 and 2 cylinders are cold..no I wonder if I have a coil problem instead of fuel delivery..my ? Is how do the coil wires come off..Do they just pull off..dont want to break anything but I would like to try to clean the connection..as always any help is greatly appreciated..Thanks

Yes they are spade lugs. Just pull them off.

Are we to assume that you have checked for spark at the failing cylinder and there is none? Did you also check at the other cylinder that the coil fires?

if you mean spark wires connected to the coils, it is a screw on compression cap type of setup. the spark plug end of the plug wire actually has a resistor in it. Rare, but sometimes they fail or just corrosion sets up. These coils don't fail, very well made.

Problem found and fixed..It was a loose wire at the #1 and 2 coil..crimped it a little tighter..all is good

Like I replied on your other thread, glad you got it solved, but that seems to be the first time someone's reported that problem. I'm curious, how many miles on your bike? Time for a new set of wires? I have 75k on my 20 year old girl, and that seems to me about the max life on plug wires, but I've had zero problems with all six cyls firing.

oem plug wires are solid core, (I think solid copper), reason for the resistor. they are not auto oem carbon core which break down, in 60-70k. some info out there say solid core breaks down, however that is under race conditions. manual gives ohm test for plug cables. great read here on designs http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/main.htm

That is a good read and very reassuring. I wondered how our bikes could continue to fire on 6 cylinders after so many years and miles. And it's actually the years I'm concerned about probably more than the mileage

I bought a set of blackbird coils yrs ago, they came with the plug wires. same solid core design. The coils provide a hotter spark than the valkyrie coils. I did install them, but took them out when I installed a dyna ignition after it went bad. they sent me a new one. on my list to try them again with the dyna since the ohm rating should be ok per dyna and that's why I went with them in the first place. and then find out that there were a few bad dynas out there. should have bought one for the shelf when they were avail.
