I have an elderly neighbor who Lesa helps whenever needed. Help includes picking her up when she falls and calls (heavy drinker), bathing her twice a week, bringing her extra food from time to time, going to the store for her (she still drives) etc.
This neighbor has a grandson........who isn't worth the powder to blow him to Hell.
Grandson is 21, has a room temperature I.Q., doesn't want to work, will not work, does not get up before 11-noon and obviously stays with grandma because he can suck what little bit of money she has left out of her. Has a girlfriend that could be a twin for Refrigerator Perry (Google him if you are young)who is dumb enough to try and support the kid by working. I can count three vehicles Grandma has purchased for him which he usually takes out in the woods and trashes. Got the picture yet?
He is a thief as well. Ask me how I know.
Anyway......today I see him in front of the house. I walk to the door and ask what he wants.
He has shot a squirrel and the squirrel has fallen into my yard. A yard he knows damn well he is not to enter.
So......First, he is shooting directly over my house.
Second....it is not squirrel season.
Third....he does not have a hunting license. Felons and guns ring a bell?
Fourth.....the squirrel he shot was a mama squirrel who was obviously full of milk and nursing a nest full of young ones.
Remember about the season in reason two? That is the reason we have hunting seasons!!!
Currently Lesa and I are nursing a baby squirrel that fell out of a nest last weekend. Now I wonder if this idiot was the reason for that as well.

Lesa was pissed!!

She called Fish and Wildlife and we both wrote out reports on him. Officer went next door and confronted him. He now has to appear in court with fines as well....now, remember the part about no job?
His grandmother calls the house after 11PM and starts in on Lesa. Lesa is not one to back down when she is right so the tone was set right off the bat.
She (we) are being blamed for "causing trouble". The neighbor says she now has to pay his fines for him. I took the phone and gave her Holy Hell about the kid and told her to grow a spine and tell the idiot to get a damn job and pay the fines himself and learn to play by the rules.
I am a hunter, love it, yet I hunt in season and am an ethical hunter.
Anyway....am fully expecting some form of payback on my property in the very near future. Let the games begin......Vent over. I feel a bit better now.

Good for you, I probably would have done the same thing.

Now, start asking your hunting friends if you can borrow their trail cameras, your feeling that he may try something is probably true. If he does, it would be nice to have a picture of him doing it.

What a shame that people like that breathe.  We had some very inconsiderate neighbors for several years with a pack of Hog Dogs that barked constantly and they said they couldn't hear them and they didn't bother them. Thank goodness we came home from a trip two years ago and they had sold out and moved and now our neighbor is just 180 out from the old one.  Camera's might not be a bad idea as Jim said.

I fear the future because of the years of feel good upbringing that has so gripped our nation. They can't wipe their own drool let alone take care of the elderly. We see it everywhere.   Embarrassed

I have noticed multiple Face book pages I have quickly joined lately like "Only vintage photos of the 30s and 40s" and many more like this and I even find myself listening to that period music on Spotify on the way home form a hard day at work. I swear it puts the days garb behind.  I was toying with the idea of ebay and old 30s 40s radio that no longer works and they are usually open back so stick a small speaker in and play the 30s 40s music through it.  crazy2 uglystupid2

Was I hatched in the wrong time?

Casey,  I have to agree with Jim on the cameras. If there is retribution, cameras may limit it to one act which will result in arrest and prosecution of the "photo confirmed" perpetrator. Pictures or better yet, video is key to ID & arrest. You are a fortunate man to have a partner who is compassionate enough to help a neighbor in need but strong enough to not take crap from them either! Good luck with this unfortunate situation.

I would look into the different options available using the RING DOORBELL; I wasn’t sure about all the hype, but after seeing my son’s system we decided to get one. The angles, views, and clarity of the camera are incredible. It sucks that we have to worry about retribution for doing the right thing, the youth of today (not all) need a serious dose of reality. It sounds as though you have established boundaries as he knows not to come onto your property w/o an invite.

Cameras may be a good idea.

Even some cheapo fake ones with a battery LED... but you need/want to be seen installing them.

I had neighbors just like yours (minus the nice old lady) for 15 years and calling the cops, health dept, animal control, zoning enforcement many times never did me any good at all..... but I got the retribution.  (they never even made them license and get dog vaccinations)

The day they finally abandoned the house (and mortgage) and moved off was one of the happiest of my whole life.

Cameras work, I installed a system with 6 color cameras that have infra red night vision. It is connected to a dvr that records non stop, and flags any time motion is detected. Makes it easy to locate events. I was having problems with the crack house next door, had 2 arrested based on play backs to the police. Also installed signs warning of 24 hr surveillance. they have made a big difference. The house is down to two guys living there, rather than a dozen a couple months ago. Of course they know if I see them screwing around at night, they will be subject to lead poisoning.

Life is like a hot bath. It feels good while you’re in it, but the longer you stay in, the more wrinkled you get.

I heartily agree with those recommending Cameras, and the best system with the most cameras you can afford, at that.

Pappy

Another thing that I thought of after posting above.
At the first hint of any trouble from this guy you want to contact the local cops. Sometimes all it takes is the local police knocking on his door asking questions to make him think twice about continuing.

All good suggestions.
Grumpy - I remembered our conversations about your need for cameras believe me!
Talked to Lesa and we will be installing something soon.
Really like the idea of making sure I am seen doing the install !!
The kid's Uncle, who lived next door and took care of his mom, died last year. Before he died he used to raise Hell with the kid on a routine basis for being lazy and good for nothing.
Also, he let the kid know that I knew who (the kid) had stolen a trolling motor and a bunch more stuff off my boat and to be damn careful of me from that point on.

That really sucks Pappy and I would definitely cover my bases by getting those cameras, IF anything were to happen you will be glad you went ahead with it.
Usually with this type of situations it is just a matter of time before the kid makes a dumb move and gets picked up by the law.

I hope things get better soon
