I'm thinking about changing the radio on my intersate. I mainly listen to my iPod and sometimes FM channels.
I've been having issues with my radio recently and now it doesn't work at all. I cant set the clock and not radio.  tickedoff tickedoff
I thought I remembered a Valker swappping out or adding a radio to thier Interstate, but I cant find the article.
Any help?
What about the guys/gals that have turned thier standards or tourers to I/S mode?
I added a 2wheels tune speaker system to my standard a few years ago, but I'm not sure how I'd do that with that with the radio on the I/S.
I'm assuming any aftermarket system would come with its own wiring harness and I'd just have to hook it to power, a switch and new speakers...but we know what happens when we assume.

I have a Sony wired into my Tourer. It used to be in a saddlebag until I installed a fairing.

They pretty much wire-up like a car.

I don't think you'll find any system capable of sending a signal to your OEM LCD readout in your fairing or tying in the controls. I would find an OEM stereo from crash victims. Pinwall on e-bay is a start.

If you want to retain your Interstate display and controls, your best bet would to replace the radio with a good used unit. They often appear on eBay, or you could check with Pinwall....

you could always find a radio installer in your area.  Pull upbeside of one of those annoying Grand Tarismo cars that are pumping and blaring and ask them who is good and cheap, they'll usually know.
Takes the nervousnes out of it.
I have installed a few non-bike stereos. On the wife's car I wanted a hidden antenna and a few other things that I didn't think I could tackle, so I let someone else do it. I was happy. The antenna that my wife bought (the one she wanted) turned out to be crap, but it is well installed, nice clean installation.

Thanks DFragn and Kingbee.
I saw your set up DFragn when I ran into you at Des Plains Honda last year, you were with Kingbee. I was picking up my I/S then.
I liked it.
I'll check with Pinwall and if that fails, I'll find a Sony or Blaupunkt car system and make it go. I'm not real concerned with the display on controls, just the occasional local stations or my iPod for the long trips.
Thanks, stay warm...spring is right around the corner.

Hey Mark. Didn't know that was you [Rider89]. Have ya been enjoying the 'State?

Another thought, you probably all ready have tho', would be to exercise & inspect all the stereo connections. That might bring it back to life for ya.

Yup, that was me.
FL is pretty slow by Chicago standards, but I'm settling in. I get back up to Illinois about twice a month so I've have my moments of winter.
I'll go pin by pin tonight before I jump in option 1 or 2.
I really dont want to shell out $400 (price for a used radio at Pinwall).
Stay tuned.  cooldude

You might want to exercise the switches, or even disassemble them to clean & lube

I put mine in the saddlebag on my Tourer.  Wiring is just like a car, & you can use the fairing speakers.

You can then use a Sony Marine remote, for control. It's below the speedo in the PIC. To the right of that is my XM/radio/MP3 player.

I suggest you splice all the wires so you can remove the saddlebag. My stereo splice is the white connector on the right.  It is a PC power supply extension cord with 20 pins, and worked out well. (Thank you, Bigf)  I cut the cord in half, producing a male & female connector which I then spliced into the stereo wiring.

Regarding your original problem, there'[s a connector in the fairing, and another under the right sidecover.  I suggest you exercise those connectors, it may very well solve your problem.

Let us know how it works out.

Nice pics Walt, thanks.
I've checked the 9 pin black connectors under both side panels and the blue 20 pin and 18 pin green connectors, am I overlooking connectors?
I'll pull the radio and elimnate connectors. I've already accounted for the CB power, passenger talk and rear speaker connectors.

I don't know if it would be worth it to you but I sure enjoy my xm radio.XM was bought by Sirius Radio recently and I don't know what it's future is but I really enjoy mine.It does not fade and the music choices far exceed FM radio.I justify my monthly expense by using it in my motorhome and van as well.I use the same mounting everywhere. It won't display stations through your dash but will play through your speaker/headphone system just fine. There is a cable behind the right hand side cover that ties it into the bike system. It would be your auxiliary option.

Long story short.  That's an Interstate fairing I put on my Tourer.  There's no way I was going to be able to adopt the Interstate dash, and I wanted to keep my  original instruments anyway.  I don't think you'd want to do that to your Interstate.
