I searched this one and really did not find the information I need.  I need to install a set of warmers on the wifes IS.  In searching the web I see show chrome makes a set of grips c/w warmers that look similar to the kuryakin grip set.  They are #17-381.  5 1/2 long so almost the same as OEM. Anyone installed them on a valk?   Or what will work and have decent heat and controller.

Be aware that this model can come apart in your right hand. The PO fitted them. I don't know how long ago nor how often they were used before I bought the bike.

My "temporary" fix until winter stops riding.

Britman.  Did the tube break or does the throttle tube on those engage into the cable side half.

The notched part coming out of the clamp now fits into the notched part on the grip itself.

There is no separate tube. What looks like a tube inside the heated part is fixed in place. Can't be replaced. Have to fit a complete grip.

The two pieces came apart. Unglued?

I would not put on a bike of mine.  cooldude

Your post made me inquisitive.
 I contacted big bike parts.
They are the distributor for Show Chrome.
They tell me that the grip used to be Sonic welded 4 or 5 years ago.
Not a system they use now.

I recommend Oxford Heaterz. I use them on my Tourer and my last bike too. Lots of heat and very well made. The controller is auto shutoff, so no battery drain.

This.  I installed Oxford Premium Cruisers on my IS a month ago, just got back from two weeks in Colorado and they were fantastic.

I have Heat Demons installed on mine, I like them a lot and the controller looks like it belongs on the bike, not an afterthought.

I had show chrome grips, they look great but are way short of the heat Oxford grips produce, mine also broke on the throttle side but glued back together ok

The biggest improvement to hand warmth was keeping the wind of, I never use the oxfords on full now and ride year round with summer weight gloves...... I fitted a bat wing but there are so many options out there to keep the wind off Smiley

I did keep the Show chrome switch unit as it looks tidy and works well with the Oxford grips (gave the oxford switch to a friend whos switch failed...the old type switch)

I still fit mine on a relay as the shut off does fail at times, have had a few friends ended up with flat batteries due to the grips not turning off

They do rock for heat though, they will eventually start breaking down and the rubber become soft/sticky but that took around 8-10 years?

I ordered and received the show chrome grips.  Britman you are correct. Although they look good the throttle sleeve has a couple of issues.  The instructions suggest having the wiring out of the throttle grip facing down or forward but when installed with the cables on,  it faces toward the rear..I didn't like that so upon investigation at the tube the glue that was used was barely anything more than silicone. One small push with my thumb and it was off.  There are two wide indexing notches and quite a few small ones that are all the same.  One of the wide ones has an extra tang on it so I cut it off and was able to move the insert 180.  I used jb weld on it and held the grip together gently in the vice till it hardened overnight.  It now faces forward and is nice and secure,  far better than the supposed glue they used. I will finish today with a relay on the circuit.  Hope this helps someone in the future.

EDIT  be sure and use a bit of sandpaper on the mating surfaces to etch them.  In the small teeth cut outs I scraped a bit with a small exacto knife to mark the surface so the epoxy can bite and hold

My right grip cable faces down and rotates with the throttle as it's turned moving the cable away from the rider and up.

Britman.   When I did a bench test I thought I saw the temperature light start as green and as the knob was rotated I thought I saw it turn orange and red.   After install it just stays orange although the grips do get nice and warm.   How does your control work.

Green, orange, red.

I have very rarely used "red".

your grips must get hotter than the show chrome ones I had... red all the time when on for me and then they were not that hot, the same controller with Oxford grips I don't use red as its to hot...they must have sorted the grips.

I did like the look of the show chrome grips, might have to get some more when the Oxfords wear out (been on 3 different bikes now) Smiley
