Reinstalled sir box after dan marc install, but no matter how hard I try, the clamps hoding the boots to the carbs wont tighen enough. Could the clamps be stretched? I ordered 6 new clamps and bolts from Honda. I have the airbox strapped down with a ratchet strap so the rubber boits seem to be fully seated

Are you aware of the small alignment dots in the rubber that position the clamps in one position, by lining up with a corresponding hole in the clamps?

Also, get a flashlight and look behind the individual carb intakes for possibly the rubber connector hose on one or more being curled under instead of slipped down over the intake. That will cause resistance to seating the airbox. If some are curled under, simply run a long skinny screwdriver along the top of the carb neck and it will force the rubber connector out and around the intake. If all is well in that dept., you might try what I do....after making certain the rather large wire bundle on the right side isn't causing your problem. I cut a piece of 2x4 about 4-6" long, lay it on top of the airbox after installing the top and filter. Then take a ratchet strap as used for tieing down the bike in transport, hook each end on the engine guard on each side of the bike and pass it over the wood block. Now just ratchet it down into place, insert the bolt at the back first, then tighten down the hose clamps. Once all is solidly in place, release the tie down.

What you're experiencing is a classic symptom of this:

Also, get a flashlight and look behind the individual carb intakes for possibly the rubber connector hose on one or more being curled under instead of slipped down over the intake.

I'd bet a fair amount that John is right and your tubes aren't correctly seated on the intake runners.

Getting all six properly seated on the carbs is a challenge - John's advice is very good. I also wipe a thin film of silicone grease on the lips of the tubes, which helps then slide onto the carbs. A large dental mirror and a bright light helps, too.

This was probably the most difficult part of my recent carb service. I can’t really give any tips but say to be persistent haha. I wish it was possible to just fit 6 small filters in place of the air box and not screw everything up. It’d look really cool though.

I finally did the ratchet strap trick and it worked perfectly. I did get new clamps and they went on and tightened up with no problems. Thanks for all the help. Got the bike up and running again
