Who uses what to repel the water off their windshields? I saw rain-x for plastics, but is there something better?

For many years now I have used nothing on my M/C windshield but Lemon Pledge. Current Valkyrie is a 2000 Standard. I have put 134K on it and windshield still looks great. Sprayed it with pledge when new and have continued to use it. Makes cleaning bugs off a snap and actually, even though I don't think of it as a water repellent, it does that as well. You will find no scratches or peeling. It does have some gravel chips but nothing will prevent that.

Non abrasive (pure, no-clean) wax.

Rainx seems to work longer than just wax, but I do and have used both.
The more you use either one the better they seem to work.

I have heard this before but totally forgot about it. I may give this a try as I already have some. I just don't want to hurt the windscreen. They are so expensive.

It works. Read about it years ago in Motorcycle Consumer News. Tried it and it worked. Used nothing but it on my last four bikes. No scratches, No fogging, No yellowing, Easy bug removal and cleaning.

I would be careful about using RainX on the windshield because there have been a few that had the laminate on the windshield peel off.

DON'T USE RAIN-X ON MOTORCYCLE WINDSHIELDS!  Bad news. There may even be a warning on the bottle, I don't remember, but I found out the hard way many years ago when I almost destroyed the screen on my then almost-new ST1300. It just clouded up to where it was almost opaque, and took untold elbow grease and record profanities to clear it up. I usually use Plexus or similar bike polish now, which has so far worked ok.

Does this include "Rain-X Plastic" made for Lexan, Acrylics and Polycarbonate?

I would think that would be fine since its made for it. But I would try it on a small area and if ok go to the whole windshield.

I use a detail spray wax on my windshield and my whole bike. Since we have alot of bugs and rain here I find what I need is something for both. The detail spray does the trick and you can use it on your bike also to clean it while your on a trip. Cleans the bugs off leaves a coating that repels the rain and since it is a wax or silicon you can wipe the bugs and dirt off more easily and they dont stick on paint work, chrome or lights. Bugs also have acid that if left on the paint or whatever can etch the surface if not protected, spray wax also helps with this.

I find the front of the radiator nacelles gets hit pretty good and the front fender just in front of the where the front forks, the fog lights and I hate it when the front lower cowl is dirty. Since it is a spray wax getting these areas clean and bug free and only using one product to do it saves, money, bag space and keeps the bike clean and worry free about any chemical reaction. Not to mention when you get caught in rain, yes rain does blow off the windshield but in doing this but some inevitably clings to the top and falls back off the top and falls on the instrument cluster which spray wax cleans that nicely also.

By using spray wax you have a multi use product that can clean anything and repels water off not only the windshield but the whole bike. If you use it regularly it keeps the whole bike cleaner and rain free and when time to wash comes around its much easier also. You also dont have to worry about how many times you apply it, the more the better. Essentially every time you apply it you are waxing your bike and it only takes a minute to do, so to me its a much better alternative for the bike or car.

If sometimes you use a cloth to wipe the bike down sometimes you will find that even with the finest of cloth it will leave fine scratches, since what you are wiping up is essentially abrasive or like cement dust. Detail spray used frequently will not stop it but help to eliminate it. To get bugs off spray some on the cloth and then on the surface to be cleaned. It acts as a lubricant and helps to stop scratching of what ever your cleaning.

Bonus on the car is sometimes for those that use wipers with the Rain X can make windshield wipers chatter, the detail spray eliminates this.

I like Rain X its a good product but since I have used detail sprays, on my bike and on my car I find my use for it is limited.
