Can Techron double as a fuel stabilizer to any capacity???

I've been using Techron to stabilized a bad idle variance issue all summer. This issue began over 2 years ago and all systems have been examined and problem deemed "unknown". Been using .5 - .75 oz./gallon 'cause that's what it takes to steady a drastic idle drop bounce when brake lights commit system to my fullest electrical load, primarily during a heat soaked condition only.

Since she's parked and soon will not be ridden for our forthcoming winter, there has been some curiosity between Kingbee & I, is it possible Techron may be quantified as a fuel stabilizer?

Why not---Techron has basically the same contents as SeaFoam, the stabilizer of choice it seems on this board.  Over the years I have used both for winter storage and found no problems.  Just my $.02.

I guess the label would indicate whether or not it's good for the purpose you desire.

The resulting idle/brake problem is probably related to battery condition more that anything else. The alternator is not like the old automobile generators where load increases/drain are related to turning resistance.

Battery was new and charged by the dealer and still tests well. If it were the bat why don't I have the idle issue with a non-heat soaked engine? And, all this is with summer riding with battery at 80*+ at start up. btw it does it in cold riding too.

label does not mention "stabilizer" in any form. But, my thought is it may afford some fuel stabilization indirectly with inherent chemicals. Just looking to see if anyone thought the same or not. Any Alchemists out there?  ???

Hey D,
I have been wondering the same thing myself.  Here's the deal: you Chicago guys put it in your fuel, let it sit all winter, then report to us next Spring if you had any fuel related issues when trying to start bikes up.  And please, let that yellow/black bike win one race on your avatar.  Walt is still all busted up, for crying out loud.

ok coulld not resist the stabiliser question. a few years back i had an Alfa-romeo Milano that sat for 2.5 years ,hooked the battery jumper ,it started at the quarter turn!!! just premium gas. , drove it for another 2 years until some crazed idiot totaled it on new years eve .

Was the gasoline in the Alfa by chance Texaco Premium??? Texaco adds Techron to all their gasoline products and why not - it's their product...

I'm sensing some madness to my anticipated actions.

Techron doesn't appear to be increasing the octane of the 87 regular I always use because BP nor Mobil Premium ever made a difference to the idle drop issue on its own sans Techron. And I have no local Texaco's 'round here.

So, that's why I'm guessing that maybe Techron might have fuel stabilizing components/capabilities not advertised.

What's the worst that can happen!? That I might have to pull the carb bank in the Spring & rinse the tank...There've been worse things in the Spring...

Since Texaco's merger with Chevron they've had Techron before that only Chevron had it.

DFragn ,the fuel in the alfa was probably chevron since it was the station closest to  my home where i gazed up. it could have been texaco since those two were the only gas cards i had then.
