Yep, while we were in Christ Church, New Zealand, we came upon a demonstration of motorcyclists.  They were protesting the increase in insurance premiums the government charges all motorcyclists.  The rates went from $200 to $700 per year.  The insurance premiums for cars went up to about $300.  Note:  This is for a government “no fault” policy, which pays for medical and rehab services in addition to the motorcycle coverage.  The government’s reasoning is that the costs for medical and rehab services are higher for motorcyclists than for car drivers.  Of course, the protest pointed out that cars caused most of the accidents that resulted in personal injuries and that car drivers should have the same percentage increase in premiums that the motorcyclists had.

It seems that motorcyclists face similar problems in other countries.
