Putting in new pathfinder LED headlights and the adapter shim fell inside the headlight unit. Has anyone been able to open this up.

They are not meant to be opened. They are glued with are heat activated glue, which can be reactivated to open, but very sensitive work. Try taking the fairing off so you can invert the light and fish it out.

I had to take the fairing off and all apart to be able to fish the shim out.. Now to try and get it all back together again. Stuffing all the wiring back in there will be a real challenge. Sad

I had the fairing off of my 2001 Interstate a couple weeks ago so I could route & secure the wiring in the fairing on my 2000 Interstate correctly after doing the daymaker conversion. I had them in the garage side by side when doing this. Like a dumba$$ I didn't think to take a picture of the wiring routing before reassembling. If you want to pm me your phone # I'd be glad to call & tell you how it is routed.

Are great for such a purpose.  Slide it in from the back, watch what you're doing from the front!

Organize all the wires and cables with zip-ties and the next time the fairing will be easier to remove and replace; there will be a next time.

If you want the adrenaline rush which comes from a complicated wiring job, try removing the I/S fairing. Next, design and install a mounting bracket which accommodates a GL1200 air compressor, remote pressure sensor and fill/bleed valves...plus the relays and control logic. This fits snugly between the fork tubes and uses existing mounting hardware to secure it. Namely, the fairing bracket.

Lastly, install a Kennedy FRSet-4 with OEM and Yaesu transceiver interfaces...plus a powered antenna for FM stereo reception. Bonus points for using the OEM Hitachi connectors and making everything look "stock". Extra bonus points for hiding it all ... uglystupid2

At a ride-in at Keystone S.D.  while changing a light bulb, the glass bulb part separated fell into the I.S. head light assembly,  Using a bendy straw and my wife,s chewing gum it was successfully fished out. Not something I would want to do everyday, but for a hotel parking lot, not bad.   cooldude

If I had been thinking at the time I probably should have just ordered a new shim. I did get it all back together and other than fishing the Sirius radio antenna in its all good. Wow are these lights ever bright.
