Just curious, have any of you guys had any close calls nearly hitting hogs here in southern Texas? We have all had close encounters with deer but I haven't heard of any motorcycle-hog encounters. There are a lot of them out there but most are nocturnal. There was one killed on my deer lease in Jarrell Tx this yr that weighed in just under 250 lbs. I have hit 2 different hogs in my truck in the last 5 yrs or so. Luckily they were small ones. They are low profile and come out of a ditch so suddenly you don't have time to react. It would be devastating to hit one on a motorcycle anyone had any close encounters with hogs?

I was told to look out for Ferrell Hogs when ridding in Western North Carolina with a local group. We did not encounter any that day, but they had pictures of them and stories of how very fast they can move. I am not interested in encountering one, a motorcycle would definitely lose out.

They're tearing up the woods and fields in the next county over where I used to live.
I don't see evidence of them here, but they weren't there either when I was there.
I'm not a hunter so I don't have direct experience with them, but I'm under the impression I wouldn't want me and the dog to end up tangling with one when we're out walking in the woods...
My current neighbor goes out places and traps them in these big trap-door traps, and says they are delicious...
The road to the place where I worked was called "Wild Hog Road", but as the thread title suggests, they're really feral domesticated hogs...

I kill about 5 hogs a yr on my deer lease . On 1800 acres with 11 hunters we took 60 last yr. So far this hunting season me and my 2 gson have taken 3 hogs in the 150 lb range. Sometimes I cut the meat into 1" cubes and the wife cooks it as stew meat in a slow cooking crock pot. Very tasty. Sometimes we grind it up and mix with deer meat to make hamburger patties. Tastes good that way but a little dry tasting. Just ate two patties with worchester sause for lunch....dry but tasty. Best eating Feral hog to me is around 80 lbs or so. Leaving tomorrow for deer lease with 12 yr old gson. He already has killed a nice 8 pt. This weekend he is after a spike, doe, or hog. I just sit with him. I'm his eyes while he naps in the deer stand...ha.

No close encounters with hogs, but plenty of close calls with inattentive drivers and deer (especially during rut). Darn near hit a buzzard once out by Leakey. Livestock can be an issue at times as seen in this pic... Have a great hunt with your grandson! (I assume you let him field dress his kill. ) Cheers!

We hunted Sat morning, Sat evening, Sunday morning....saw only 2 deer the entire time.....very unusual for our lease......winds were high and the deer are leary of high wind as they cant hear things well. Both gsons help with the cleaning but can't do it by themselves yet......looking forward to the day when I can say " yeah.....nice kill.....now go clean it." ha

Had a couple close calls in northeast and east Texas...at night you won't see them unless it IS a close call...as the vast majority of them are "flat black". They also tend to be in groups...
I always figured if I hit one there'd be no evidence...as all it's buddies would drag both the dead hog and me off and make a quick meal out of 'em.

I travel Hwy 80 between Luling and San Marcos and see dead Ferrell hogs almost weekly in various sizes. I hate having to drive in the dark in fear of one running in front of me. I commute by motorcycle and winter months drive me crazy with these Ferrell hogs running around.

I am on a family vacation right now in Red River NM. Between Houston and abilene is about 350 miles and I counted 10 dead hogs on the sides of the road. To me that is quite a few. Yall be careful out there. They are lurking on the sidelines.

I saw the remnants of one yesterday on 77 between Cameron and Waco somewhere. Judging by how far and wide it had been spread, it was big enough to ruin almost anyone's day.
