Gun deer hunting season starts tomorrow here in Wisconsin.  I personally don’t hunt, it’s a long story…..  but the other day I was watching the outdoor channel and this guy shoots a 16 point buck with a perfect spread that’s casually walking about 15 yards in front of him, and my first thought is, it’s a game farm.  Talk about shooting fish in a barrel!  I talk to co-workers that spend hours in the woods and haven’t seen a thing all year, and here this guy gets soooooo lucky!

If anyone wants, please come to my house and kill some of these forest rats out of my back yard!!!

Al.

I got a 24 ft striper boat out in the garage full of fishing rods , live bait tanks , 15 built-in rod holders etc .... I think about hunting and fishing all the time then I get on my bike and ride  cooldude

OK. I'm gonna ask what is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.  uglystupid2  What makes a striper boat a "striper boat"? Growing up here in West Texas, bass & ski boat's are what we usually see.

ya, I'm a crossbow hunter. Seasons about over for me, it starts
in october here in Ind.  Have already taken a buck and doe.
purchased a bonus antlerless permit, going to try for number 3
in the morning.  no canned hunting here, strickly trugging through
the woods and spending many hours in a tree stand hoping the
right animal walks out in front of ya.

Samething that makes a bass boat a bass boat I guess  Undecided

It's a center console all open 24 ft long , 8 ft. wide it has 6 inch foamed filled tubes front to rear ( so if you hit something and knock a hole in it only that 6 inch tube will take on water ) it has zero wood in it all fiberglass and aluminum.I've got a top with full curtains for winter fishing with two heaters on board.I caught my biggest on a Jan. day when the temp was 13.By the way I'm a live bait fisherman so I could have called it a Catfish boat but Striper boat just sounds cool  cooldude  Plus it has " STRIPERS RULE " on the top .

Best pic I can find right now of it 'puter is slow tonight for some reason .Yeah I dropped my bike  Sad  no damage  Smiley

When I put my service revolver in the gun safe June 30, 1986, I locked all the cabinets and now just look at the rifles, shot guns & etc..  Once every 4 or 5 months I pull them out and clean and oil them.

I just can't get into the hunting mood this season for some reason. I would rather be riding.

And as for hunting here in the UK,you will get arrested for rabbit hunting with a .22 air rifle if your not on private land.

I got this one about a month ago with a bow.

But what was even more fun was being with my grandson Dylan when he shot his first one two days later.  He even used the same gun I shot my first deer.   cooldude cooldude cooldude

Over many years I hunted for deer, bowhunting, high power rifle in Wyoming, muzzleloader, and ended my hunting days by getting an eight point buck with a Ruger open sighted Super Blackhawk  .44 mag using handloads.
That deer was taken from a ground blind, the distance was 42 yards,  he ran 25 feet and dropped shot through the heart.

Maybe I'll go back to hunting squirrels, not so hard to haul out of the woods when you have no hunting partner. cooldude

Yeah I know RJ.  The deer dropped in the middle of a bramble field.  I had to borrow the farmer's wheelbarrow to haul him out!  What a job! Smiley

Yes I do.

I hunt with a compound, recurve, rifle, and flintlock.

I didnt get anything in close enough during bow season, which ended the 2nd week of Nov here. I have yet to get anything with the recurve.
Rifle starts next Monday and the Wife, Daughter and I will be hunting, the son will be with me or the wife though he is to young yet for his own lic.

Then the day after Christmas comes and it is the most fun hunting I have done, FLINTLOCK season, no caplock, no component charged modern scoped rifle, a rock, pan, and a patched round ball.

Last year we had a clean sweep, the daughter got a 4pt, the wife and I both got doe. (In western PA, a adult hunter may only shoot a buck if it has more then 4 points on one side)

We cold pack most of it and jerk the rest.

I bow and muzzleload hunt both. Indiana  has a one buck limit, so bow hunted for a freezer doe and passed up 6-8 forky to 10pt 2 yr. old bucks at 10-15 yds and never had a doe in range. Opening day of gun season brought home 2 does for sausage and jerky. Still trying for a set of big horns. Weird season this year warmer than normal and lots of corn still in fields causing fewer deer sightings. Looking forward to the cold front tomorrow. cooldude

I used to go hunting when I was a kid.  But really, I'd just get bored and cold.  I actually liked the "getting ready to go hunting" ritual most which involved getting out all the gear, doing a bunch of shooting to "sight in" the gun and the sitting around talking about hunting more than the hunting itself.  I prefer going to a range and shooting paper than sitting in the woods, freezing my a$$ off, waiting for some stupid deer to walk withing range while I'm barely awake enough to notice it.  On the other hand, my brother loves hunting and goes every year.  He used to bow hunt alot too...that was his favorite...but now his girls are into softball and he's coaching.  So he's really too busy to do much bowhunting.  But come rifle season, he's out there with his 2nd oldest daughter.  She's 11 now and a decent shot too.  Here's the 10-point she got last year in the field right behind my house.

I got a nice 10 or 12 point in my back yard, but no hunting in the area (residential).   I have taken down raccoons, groundhogs and even skunks from within the kitchen, just opening the window (without the screen).  But I don't think I could get away with using my 30/30 to take the buck down or even using the 22 with Subsonics.  Guess I will continue to shoot this guy with my camera....

I was fortunate to get a "baby buck" on opening day of firearms (12 ga. slug gun) season in Indyanner.  Small 8pt that prolly was about 110-120 lbs field dressed.  My buddy got a 8 pt that was about 175 lb.

Now hope to get a nice doe to fill out the freezer w/ steaks and sausage.  Also have jerky curing for Thanksgiving.

10 yrs ago, I'd have laughed at the idea of me hunting deer, but my buddy was good to me about my naivete about such matters and he brought me along.  I did a lot of reading about hunting bucks, but I'll never be the gung ho hunter that he is.  I'd never get the hang of a bow!  But I do have a MUCH greater appreciation of those that hunt and what it takes to bag one.

There is nothing like the rush of "Buck Fever".

I’ve done the same thing in our kitchen!  I’ve gotten about 15 rabbits, a dozen or so squirrels with a pellet gun.  I use a wrist rocket (sling shot) with marble to get the neighbors dog out or our yard, I know he’s just there to crap in my lawn!

There’s a nice 8 pointer that wonders in once in a while for my trail cam, but I can’t find that picture!

Jump him with a knife. Dang nice rack. Same here but if he was in my back yard he wouldn't be around very long.

Used to go quite frequently, but riding the bikes have taken over most of those urges. Maybe one day  will take it back up. Did enjoy it very much, new granson may get me started back in a few years.
