Faded saddlebags

I have a 98 tourer the paint still looks pretty good on all the tins but the saddlebags faded and alligatored on the tops. I have been hoping to find a good deal on a trunk but people seem to think that trunks are worth almost as much as an entire bike so I have given up and decided to just move forward with repainting the bags. I dropped them off today should have them back in a week or two. We all know what this means someone Is going to make me a great offer on a truck the moment I get the bags back just to piss off the friend that is doing me a favor and painting the bags, he made it clear he wants to do everything at once.

Some of those Harley trunks can be picked up for a good price.

I really wanted to keep it as stock looking as possible I also want the trunk to store my helmet/s when I get somewhere many of the HD trunks are on the small side and do not fit a helmet no the less two!
Now that I have had the bike close to a year it is pretty clear the wife is not planning to take any trips so storage has became less of in issue. When I took off the bags today it occurred to me i really haven't used them for much. I have put a few tools in them and gone on a service call or two but this is rare!
