Re. our chat a few days ago, it would seem to me that welding aluminum wouldn't require a high amp welder, especially if only 16 gauge material. Does that sound right or am I missing something? I could probably use my flux core "spitter" for the rest of the work.

Not for 16 gauge, but you need dc voltage and pure argon gas for aluminum.

Also trying to find a solid wheel as opposed to spoked, wanting to not run an inner tube if possible. Guess that ain't happening. I can get a new wheel and brake drum cover for about $67, 12mm diameter axle, use the drum cover sans the guts as a cover and function as needed spacer as well. Found a Michelin rated for 75mph but is tubeless, not sure about running a tube in that. I've see some small spoked wheels go tubeless by using the rubber strip and a load of sealer, thought it kinda messy and maybe not a secure application to prevent flats. Oh well....still looking!  Wink
