Hi.

I just finished rebuilding the carbs on my 2000 Interstate and have gotten my bike running again after sitting for five years.

The only thing is, I'm no mechanic.  I found a great series of YouTube videos on how to rebuild them but I am struggling to sync them and adjust the pilot screws.  I guess I'm cheap because I don't want to pay shop prices to finish this. (the last time I had the bike in the shop for a routine service it was $1000!)

So the manual states to adjust the pilot screws I need a tach that is sensitive to 50 rpm.  Does anyone have any advice on what to use?  I know about the Digi Sync from the forums but I don't want the spend the money to only use it once.

Thanks

George

cooldude I'm in the  pan-handle so not any help but there are some folks in your area. Be patient and I'm sure you will get a response or two. Sixlow is in your area.  Good luck.  coolsmiley

I have a Twinmax that served me well over the years.  You are welcome to ride over here if it runs well enough to get here and you can use it to sync them here.  I am 20 miles North of Gainesville.  It doesn't do them all at once but has an A and B input.  Put A on #3 and sync the rest with B to #3.  It is a differential pressure device that has a needle that is pulled either side of zero by the vacuum.  You adjust the screw on the rest of the cylinders one at a time until it alternates the same amount either way.
I don't have a Valkyrie now but had 3 at one time.  I can send it to you if need be and tell you how to use it.  Send me a direct email with your phone no. if you want and we can discuss options if you don't find a digisync.

Thank you very much Thunderbolt and Art708.  I am hoping to work on it some more tomorrow.  If I don't make any meaningful progress I will take you up on your offers!

Best Regards,

I was at the hockey game in Jacksonville and just saw your post. What time tomorrow would be good to call?

Another Valkyrie success story here, George came over this morning, I was concerned at first by the way it was running that a sync was not going to be enough. during the sync the idle ran up to 2k and we settled her down and dialed her in. We confirmed the pilot screws at 2.25 out and it also needed new vac caps. a nice dose of B 12 and a good ride seems to have cleared up the low rpm hesitation quite well and she was purring like a valk should about 30 miles later. You should be meeting him on a a ride someday soon, real nice guy and will fit right in. Look Jack I found another fella on a Blue/silver IS !

Glad it worked out.  I have seen several that after the sync was finished idle went way up and had to be adjusted a couple of times during the process.  Good on you Mike as the old bug killer would say.

Thank you again Mike for your help and expertise. It had been so long since I rode that I forgot the wonderful feeling of being on two wheels. I am certainly looking forward to rides in the future and meeting all of the other Drafon Riders.

Cheers!

BWAAAHAHAHAH!

Spellimg is usually my strong suit... spell check not so much.

Went to Daytona yesterday hoping to get a deal on tires.  No deals to be had.  I wanted to try the Avon's but wound up with the Dunlop Elite 3 again.  $650 later and I am ready to ride my Drafon!  Wink

Lilgeo,

I knew the Florida guys would hook you up, it just wasn't my place to volunteer their services,

I hope to meet you next winter, my wife will finally be retired, so we will be spending the month of January and February at Stagecoach RV park in St Augustine. ( I bring my Valkyrie also)

Thanks Jim,

I am really looking forward to riding and meeting everyone.   The other day, when I was riding with SixLow was the first time I have ever ridden with another Valk and it was awesome to watch a Valkyrie.  Of course, when it was my turn to take the lead I was despondent watching his fog lights in my mirrors.  I always wanted the pod lights.

One of my first long rides with a bunch of Valkyries was up to Gettysburg for the Blue/Gray ride...

One thing I remember about it was, on the way back, the clump of Valkyries on 81 and being in
the middle of the sounds of their engines mixing together... a good sound...
