Can someone please explain why I can buy a used IS in good shade for as little as $3500  and yet if I want to buy a truck alone in average shape I'm looking at $1000 plus?.
I recently gave up and had my saddlebags painted I had been waiting to have it done with whatever trunk I can find but it just didn't make sense so I moved on,

Nobody wants old bikes that aren’t quite historic collector age yet so the price is dropping dramatically as thes bikes are hitting 20+ years. Parts are not being made but the ones that already have the bikes need and want them. Supply and demand. Simple economics

I thought about just buying an IS and keeping mine as a parts bike but I don't have the money or room at this time and my wife would kill me!

It is what the market will bare....if someone asks a $1000 for a trunk and gets it...well there ya go...shop around, you can find them cheaper but not by much.

Trunks are nice, but I take mine off for 90% of my riding....

Good luck

True that, on the parts vs. whole bike pricing.  I bought a 98 tourer with low miles 16k at a good price just for it's parts. (And to help the daughter of the dead guy) It's parked in the tool shed.  Trouble is, these bikes rarely break and I haven't needed any parts off it yet and I've had it 3 years.  As for needing the space of a trunk - well I have a Wing but I prefer Jade, more comfy, has cruise, belly tank, great audio, rigged for trailers.  So I just pull a Tagalong and have all the space I need.  Plus I can remove it in a minute sans tools at Inzane for local rides there for more performance.

Check the classifieds in case it turns out you can strike a deal with Trout Dude...

I have spoken to anyone I have come across selling a truck.  I cut a deal with someone a while back he was going to send me both the saddlebags and the trunk but then he cut a deal to sell everything he had to someone else who wanted a lot more money from me.  I have since decided to give up and just repaint the faded original bags I have.  Now if I come across a deal I will have to change the hinges as well.

I paid $450 shipped for my trunk with fender rails. It was a little faded and abused but so is my bike and I already knew I was gonna have to paint whatever I got. No bumblebee interstates selling trunks out there. (Still not painted)  I did also trade factory studded driver and passenger seat, fender rails, sissy bar, and luggage rack. Initially we agreed on $600 and negotiated parts trades from there. Deals are out there if you look long enough

I would have been happy to pay $450 for a trunk with rails!!
I new I was going to paint my bags and planed to paint the trunk at the same time.  Every one I spoke to made it seem like they were doing me a favor selling it to me for a thousand plus shipping which still seems ridiculous to me!
At this point the season is about to start and all I plan to do is give the bike a good cleaning and inspection and start riding possible tomorrow it the weather permits.

I gave $1,300 for mine way back in 1999 then had to pay to get it painted to match.

It's like that's your sentimental favorite Valkyrie or something and you're saving it for...? It seems like
you're always on one of the others at a ride...

There's been a lot going on over here at my house the last few weeks, the closest thing to
a ride I've had is when I ran the black bike around the circle to dry it off after washing it...

It looks great!  Back when you paid that much the bike as a whole were worth more then they are today.
Again that a good looking bike enjoy!
I'm hoping to do a little cleaning in the morning and maybe take a ride in the afternoon.  It was too cold today to work on it so I drove the Vette and went to the range to shoot a few guns I don't use much.
