Dear Scott, in the past I've had some real good sirloin burgers, tasty steak burgers and even a first class rib sandwich before so I know those beef cuts well. I had one of the new McDonald's Angus burgers today and it tasted like crap.

Just exactly what part of the cow is the Angus?

I believe Angus is the breed of cow...supposed to be a higher grade meat.  I don't eat at McD's...

Uncle Dan decided we should stop at the Burger King in Icard, NC on the way home
from West Virginia once... the angus burger there was beyond awful... there were a couple
of dead flies in the french fries...

Raymo, the part you asked about is right at the top and just under the tail.      It has a funny shaped hole there also.

You got some excellent answers already, but I'll see if I can help out.  The Grey Ghost would be the best one to answer this from a technical standpoint but I'll give it a go.

The McDonalds Angus Burger would be from the southbound end of a northbound Cow.

See this end of the cow?  That would be the northbound end.

This is the soundbound end, which is what the McDonalds burger is made from.

More Cow pictures, since I had to dig them out....

Here's the Grey Ghost:

I'll keep on driving past a McDonalds for 20 miles or more if I know there is a Hardee's or Burger King up ahead.  The Thick Burgers from Hardee's are the best.

And I will never go to a Taco Smell after what my sister-in-law seen.  A truck was unloading boxes at the back door and she seen on the cartons...."Grade D beef / but edible". Shocked  That sounds like that just might be a half a notch above dog food. crazy2   I always wondered how they could sell their crap so cheap...might be because it IS crap. Cheesy

Whew, had me sweating for a second there, after the big McD's Taco Hell is my second favorite place for fine dining. I never had any "meat" that tasted as good as what I feed my dog.

Now and again  read a post to which I desperately want to reply, "BS" but I just don't want to deal with the ensuing argument.

I wonder, could we come up with an icon that means, "I really don't believe you, but I won't bother countering your defense?"

Incidentally, I experimented with deep frying a couple of houseflies and they weren't really recognizable (or even locatable)afterward.    Grin

I don't normally eat at McD's, but I will if I'm with someone whjo wants to.  I usually explain it by saying, "I just don't particularly care for McDonald's."   Smiley

For the rest of us that have to have some deeply cemented memory as to why we won't eat here or there:

I have to say that Hardee’s has the best burgers.  Anyone that has ever worked in any fast food restaurant knows that the food is made of crap but is cheap enough to keep bringing ‘em in!

The only time I eat at McD’s is when I’m feeling constipated.  I don’t know if it’s the grease, or the lard, but one of them gets me going.

After watching that movie “super-size me” I’ve had a hard time eating at McD’s.

It's been my experience that the quality of fast food depends largely on the quality of employees working there.
The fast food industry have fairly high standards but only if they are applied.
They hire young kids for minimum wage. When was the last time you could get a kid to clean their room much less a grill.

As to the Angus burger at McD's. I've not had it but my wife has and thinks it is pretty good. And she doesn't like McD's in general.

What I like is finding a brew pub (Go to beerme.com for list of brewreies and brew pubs in the world) or local owned bar/grill. Find that you get way more for money and quality is generally better.

Seen my sister-in-law tonight and asked her about the grade d beef.  It was a story told to her by a co-worker.  When she told the story a year ago, I thought she said she seen it.  Oh well.  I still won't go to taco smell or mc donalds.

Yet there they were, lying there upside down, next to the french fries when they were spilled out
of the bag...

Maybe they partook of the fries, and that's what killed them, but they'll always be "fried flies from
the bugar king at icard" to me...
