Got a call from my older brother that has a nice Street Glide.  He asked if I had heard about this "new product".  Said it is a smaller brake so's you can "show off" that custom front wheel.

Well.......
After asking more about it, seems it is a glorified DRUM front brake that is smaller in diameter that allows more of your custom front wheel to show.

"WHOA!" I sez, that's gonna lose you a bunch of braking ability in the front wheel that does the majority of your braking duty!!!!  Why would you trade off twin rotors of disc brakes for an antiquated and inefficient front drum brake, just to show off a chrome wheel????

Then the clincher, it's his buddy that is putting this anachronism on HIS bike and it's gonna cost him a cool $1000!!!!!  Basically, I told my brother that he's an idiot for doing it.  uglystupid2

Good luck to the guy, especially if he rides in rain, etc.  Hope he doesn't have to stop too fast!

My brother is no mechanical genius, so I am glad he called for my opinion first.  Sheesh, trading vanity for safety, what a maroon!

Many Harley riders are taught somewhere not to really use that front brake cause it will "put you down"  So it wont really matter hes not going to use that one either probably.   At these speeds, all you need is the rear

It is not a drum brake , it is multiple disk brake, several disk's stacked with pads in between. Same thing is used in a larger size on commercial aircraft.
Here is a link to the manufacturer, they list stopping distance etc . http://www.360brake.com/home.html
I have a friend that uses one on his custom chopper and it seems to work fine.

While I wouldn't wanna spend $1k for it, it does appear to be more than just a drum brake, looks like it's a disc brake with a pad and caliper that's a full 360 degrees, thus the name...

when i used to race carts we had axle clutches that look like that...so instead of applying power you are stopping it...now thats thinking with your dip stick right there,,,

I'll bet it really dont matter if it's drum or disk, better stopping power or none at all, as long as it looks cool and the neighbors think he's a badass it would not matter if it caused lung cancer....Murphy's law in action, let it take it's coarse. He probably has Triple A tow his 4 door truck to the dealership when the A/C does not work also.

Okay, I'll give 'em that it isn't a drum brake.

But I doubt that it is better than a two disc system.  Better than nothing, I guess.

CJ that picture right there is what gives the "real bikers" at Deal's Gap a bad name. Dude is passing on the double yellow and he's across one yellow line. He should be made to ride a 3 speed before he hurts some Harley rider.  Grin

Ya Ray, where are the LEO's when you need them.  Ill bet that guy is going way fast for conditions, and do you know what wake turbulance from speed like that does to a slow moving Harley, it could be dangerous

No, they were riding side by side...and the Harley guy, used to just riding to the dealership and back for free hotdogs, couldn't handle the curve, taking it too wide and too fast, so he had to hit the rear brake...cuz he knew if he hit the front brake, he'd go over the handlebars and mess up his HD leathers.... 2funny
