I'm not really much for a lot of music that seems to grab the hearts strings of so many others.  Don't get me wrong, I do like music.  There's always music playing in the back of my head.  The acoustics are quite good there given the curvature and resonance of the anterior skull.

Lately, I've found myself slipping often into a sort of nostalgic melancholy usually washed in a contemplation of what might be left behind when I'm gone.  It's not really as uncomfortable there as one might think, but it drives me to particular musical strains, certain voices, and a rather reflective theme.

I have ridden just about 860 miles since the event, hardly a good day's ride.  I rode to work and back yesterday, a little over 120.  It was a good day to ride, temps in the high seventies, but with a rather persistently strong southerly wind.  I found myself uncharacteristically and troublingly weary in the early evening and was in bed well before the clock struck ten.

Enjoy, if you will, the music of Israel Kamakawiwo‘ole.  He's been gone now for some twelve years.  He lived less than forty and struggled with living for a while before he was taken.  He's left behind something that seems to speak to the hearts of some.

I always enjoyed his singing, very simple message and presentation. One of my granddaughters used to like to sing along with him on the "rainbow" song as she put it.

As for the melancholy, not unusual after major physical trauma and recovery. I went through a bit of it, mixed with some depression, after my triple bypass seven years ago. But, keeping active with things of interest and my work(was prior to retirement), plus my lady love at my side, it passed.

Thanks, John.  I'm covered in most areas, but would you care to share your lady love?   Wink  (just kidding, of course, my lady is more than adequate)

Most of what I wrestle with is vacillating between being surprised that others consider it major trauma and wondering why I'm still alive.

Probably TMI.  I really don't want to have to pay you a therapy fee.  LOL

I had heard that before but did not know he had been gone 12 years. I guess he was gone before I heard it the first time.

I can understand Carl.  Music has always had an association for me.  Song like "Moonlight Serenade'" Glenn Miller,  "The Moldau" (sp) always reminded me of life's flow, but most of all,   "I'll Be Loving you Always"  the special song between the wife and I.  She's been gone 7 years but I still remember.
Traumatic events like your accident and the loss of a spouse will always cast lingering shadows over our lives.

Quite a coincidence, Wayne.  I fell in love with "The Moldau" when I first heard it over the office intercom some twenty-nine years ago.  I had a hard time tracking it down.  They don't announce elevator music, you know.

Although the song is written to reflect the various phases of a river (Die Moldau) I envisioned it as representing changing moods from the deck of a sailing vessel, perhaps a pirate ship, adventuring on the high seas.
