Just to confirm the db 501 is the speaker that directly replaces the front stock speaker in the IS? Is it worth changing it out? Also I was thinking of adding an amp and maybe a small subwoofer to add some bass. Nothing stupid to shake the parts off. Just something to add some richness to the sound Anyone have any thoughts, better yet pics?

You have the how-to? Here's one. http://forums.delphiforums.com/valkyrie/messages?msg=12890.1&gid=2139266887The speakers are 5". The OEM are 4". I thought that the Polk wasn't being made any more? I put a set in my trunk, placed that on my Shadow ACE Tourer, and installed a marine radio. Sound could never get loud enough to hear going down the hwy at 70mph from the back.

I did the db501's front and back on my Interstate, and added an amplifier inside the fairing. It rocks, plenty loud enough to hear even at highway speeds. In city about 17, on the highway about 23 on the volume control rocking the tunes. Well worth the investment if you ask me. I plug my iPhone in on the AUX and play tunes from it. Crank the volume up on the phone and it's even louder.

I did the same as Mark... 501's in front and back with amp in the fairing. The front is a direct fit. The rear ones you'll need to trim about an 1/8" of the metal off on the one side of the speaker mounting plate. Easily done with tin snips. Sound much better!

The DB 501's are no longer made. A few years ago, I replaced my '05 wing speakers with the 501's. A great improvement.

Has anyone installed the DB522's on the Interstate? Do they fit or is a modification needed?

If they are the same size as the 501's they'll fit. Even the 501s had to be slightly modified to fit.

The stock speaker is a 4". The Polk 501 was 5". The link I posted showed how to make the larger speak fit. The same can be done with the mentioned 522 5.25" speaker too.
Any marine (outdoor) speaker of the right size can be used.

Guys, the DB501 speakers are still available on Amazon, not sure how many sets are still available but after people see this they will be gone. They are $60.

The DB501 was superceded by the DB522. I have the DB501 in the front and the DB401 in the trunk. No modification necessary. I have a Clarion Amp under the fairing to drive them and it sounds FAR better than stock.

I put a 240 watt amp from Electrical Connections in the fairing ... several years ago, and 2-way Alpine speakers front and back. Got rid of those stupid speaker enclosures in the fairing and lined every inch of the inside of the fairing and backsides of the speaker panels with DynaMat. And if you knock on the fairing with your knuckles, it sounds solid, not hollow. I can hear mine fine at #7 on the highway with Mark T glasspacks.

I tried the 522 today, it is too big and will not line up with the mounting holes unfortunately. I'm going to have to try the DB402 since the 501 is discontinued.
