Stopped in to the local auto sound shop and got a quote for a 250W amp for my IS.
$900 out the door, sounds a little steep for me, or am I out of touch with reality?

Sounds way high. Rockford Fosgate 300 W is like 300-400 dollars on line

I've had this one in for awhile and it does the job just fine.  Have it mounted in the front fairing behind the Instrument panel (on a cross bar I added)  Works great.  I'm sure it's not a high end but, has been working great for 2 years now.

Power Acoustik CA4_1600D
Can find them on Amazon for about $165

Yep sounds a bit high to me.  Maybe take a look at Amazon or even ebay to get some going prices.  I have a very good stereo, 300w with speakers, with a crossover/preamp, for much less than your quote.  Here's the Lanzar 4-channel plus subs crossover with Bluetooth and the 300w amp next to it.  With this I can link the phone and play say Pandora without a wire feed.  Love to use the sub channel but don't care to dedicate space for the speaker/box.  Sound is still quite good with the provided 4" speakers.

Just purchased a Kenwood KAC-M3004 for 135.00. Great amp, great reviews, performs even better than advertised specs. Along with Polk 501s make a huge improvement.

I searched Rockford Fosgate punch.  The 300w amp that is on Bruce’s bike popped right up. It’s right around $200. Worked good for me, fit inside the faring
