I am trying to figure a way to eliminate the large handlebar clamp (or cap) that goes between the two risers on my 99 interstate.
It is nothing major, but it would be nice to have that section of handlebar between the risers to use for a gps or other accessory  mount.
I thought I heard that the VTX bars and mounts are the same as the Valkyrie?
Do they use the twin caps?
If so, can I buy just the caps, or do I have to buy their whole riser set?
If I have to buy new risers, what is the maximum rise and pull back that does not need to change the cables?
I have a set of new 5 inch, but they look too tall for the cables.

Thanks,
Jim

Salvage yard.  Other Hondas such as the Magna have similar riser clamps but in two parts.  That's what I have on my Valkyries.

Generally, 4" risers are the tallest you can go with no cable worries.  The taller Deuce risers (5.5") didn't need any new cables, but the throttle cables had to be re routed inside the triple tree (and that was on an interstate, which has them come off the handlebar differently than the std and tourer, with a bit more stretch to them).

If all you are looking for is an accessory mount, many guys have just glued up some velcro right on the big center clamp and used the other (male/female) velcro on the back of the accessory itself (or it's cover).  Yeah, you end up with a chunk of velcro on the clamp showing when the accessory is not in use, who cares?

I am not aware of any aftermarket or Honda (2) single clamps to replace the existing single center clamp (but some may exist).  Almost all aftermarket risers will come with individual clamps (and you can't use the existing Valk center clamp with them either).

And, you can also get a ram type mount and put it to one side or the other of the handlebars, away from the center clamp.  I used one of those on my interstate for a satellite radio, jammed up against the existing radio controls on the left. (until I got so pissed off at satellite radio sales trying to jack me up every year on higher subscription rates, that I just tore it off and threw it away)

I bought a set of new caps for the Honda Shadow. They fit just fine, and that opens that space for the GPS. I mounted mine there and have been using it that way for some time now, It works well.

Go to the RAM site and search for part  RAM-B-367U. It replaces any one of the existing bolts on the stock riser clamp and provides a clamp base. From there you can use any of the RAM hardware.
You could even install more than one if you had multiple items to mount.

I have this setup on my bike, easy to swap from my GPS to phone depending on preference.

Can you not just use the top clamp from the std/tourer models?

As long as the handle bar is the same diameter shouldn't anything work?

Isn't the top clamp the same on all models?

Thanks everyone,

Since I found that Willow and Markymark have used the VTX & Shadow riser caps I started looking for some.
They are all over Fleabay, and still available new for about $25 a set at Partszilla and others.
So that is the way I will go.

Thanks again,
Jim

Thanks for the tip on the Shadow clamps. Looks like Honda uses the same part on a hundred different bikes over many years.  cooldude
