OK here is the story. Just did a complete maintaince  on my gifted 97 standard. Carbs , brakes, and all the fluids .Awesome bike, cream and purple. Any ways, runs great an loving it.  Then my brother is backing my dads SUV up and backs right into it. Over it goes up side down  Angry tickedoff Amazingly no damage, except the left peg is slightly bent at the tip.( Problem) Gas pours out of the carb vent tube when the shut off is turned on. How can gas even get to the air tubes? It was late maybe gas is following down the air tube from a cracked gas T. I don't need this now, I'm trying to get ready for TAOS. Always something. Get it back on it's wheels (not standing up), and then do you know how to stand it up?

Most likely you already have with the 2 of you there. Might be a good time to research how to lift it properly. I've dropped mine, couldn't get it back up on my own, and got help. After that, researched again, and then practiced dropping and lifting my IS on my own. youtube has a how-to with a GW.

No only do I know how to do it, I know I CAN do it. I think this is the most important thing.

Now for your issue, fuel spilling out. I'm not really sure where it's from, but it's normal. I think it's the overfull, the drains, this happened to when I turned my carbs over while they where out of the bike, with fuel in the bowls.

Just give it a chance to evaporate and the fuel to settle before trying to fire it up, and you should be fine.

When you do stupid things, you get super human strength Shocked. My brother had it back on it's wheels before I could help  Grin
I think something is broke. Gas is pouring out when the Pingle is turned on, and stops when you turn it off.

I think a float is stuck open, not shutting the fuel off (it is coming from a drain hose?).

Worse might be the petcock allowing fuel to flow without the bike running (it isn't, is it?). Look up hydro lock.

Is it the OEM petcock or a pingle? The OEM doesn't allow fuel to flow, unless there is a vacuum being applied to it, to open up a diaphragm.

A float is stuck. The air vents also serve as fuel overflow.

Open all the bowl drains and let the carbs empty out (petcock off of course). Then give each carb a few light raps with a small hammer or butt of a screwdriver or something. Close the bowl drains and turn the fuel on. If it didn't have this issue prior to doing a somersault, it should be fine now.

I will say that original float needles that are now 20+ years old are living on borrowed time. They don't last forever and are the root cause of hydro-locks.

She magically healed herself over night  cooldude smitten
Must have been a stuck float. I replaced all the float needles when I did the carb rebuild. We were very cautious as to the hydro lock, everything seamed good. No gas smell to the oil. Lets Ride Cool
