I just installed my shifter and per instructions with appropriate bolts loose/hand tight, I worked through the gears with the engine off. When I downshift to 1rst gear, the shifter keeps jumping back to neutral. I also notice my main bracket bolt is almost if not completely to the top of the main bracket slot. All the photos and the video I saw show the main bracket bolt more toward the middle of the slot. I read and re-read the directions many times before and during the installation. If I did something wrong, I'm not sure what it was. Everything lines up nice and straight. Has anybody else had this happen? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hey Bob, The sweeping opening was designed to allow for a full 1-click up or down on the splines. The final tightening needs to be where the shifter normally sits. How you find this is by shifting between firsand neutral and feel where the pressure is while pressing up and down... in and out of gear. Then, tighten the main mounting bolt. BTW, I'll be at Inzane. If you're there, stop by and we'll figure it out. Jersey

Sometimes, the transmission just won't shift with the engine off and the gears not turning; this is because the gear faces have to line up to mesh, and when not turning, this may not happen. If you have a lift, try spinning the rear wheel when attempting to shift with the engine off.

Mine worked out toward the middle of the slot. I wonder if you are one tooth off on the shifter arm spline? Jim

One thing I forgot to mention in the original post, I have cobra floorboards now instead of the OEM pegs so I had to set the shifter a tooth higher on the spline to make it easier to get my toe under there.
I moved the shifter down a notch and tightened everything back up. Like Jim said, the shifter was set too high. I'll just have to learn to lower my toe a bit more now but the bike shifts as it's supposed to.
As always, thanks everyone so much for the help and guidance. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.

Might try a peg lowering kit. It will help give you a little more room to get under the shifter. I think MarkT is still making them.

Jersey, You offer the shifter kits in polished or chromed...what about black powdercoat? One of my Valks is dripping with chromium. The other...well, once you go black you start powdercoating or painting EVERYTHING. I can't make Inzane this year. Seems work decided to block that week as a business summit, and my presence has been requested...

Honestly, I don't know. Will check it out.
