THE BIG EASY, NEW ORLEANS

« on: November 27, 2009, 03:38:02 PM »

For the last 7 years I have ridden a 98 kawasaki Vulcan 1500.  I sold it and just bought a 98 Tourer with 30k miles. the first order o business was a clean up and detail, as the previous owner had left the bike out in the weather without much covering.  It was in excellent running condition, however. After ordering a new seat, i cut the piggies and drilled the 1st set of baffles.  In this case, it made a great difference,  I would have drilled the second set, but did not want to risk the extended bit coming off and getting lodged in the exhaust.  i saw something called the ragnar cut, but could not reference anything to it.  Would this make it easier to get to the second set of bafles and get even more o a rumble from the pipes?  Also, what is the size of the bolts used to secure the saddlebags to the rame?

thanks for any help you can provide!

Welcome and congrats! When I bought my 98 it, too, had been neglected
for a while. All good now, though. I had front and rear baffles drilled on my
03 (RIP) and it sounded great! Only drilled the rears on my 98 but I put
some I/S tips on and I think it gives it more rumble, especially at lower
rpms. When do we get some pics?

LABLUE, shoot me an email @ ppcshooter1(Remove This)@msn.com.  I saved a word document on exhausts and I'll send it to you.

Here's the page for the Ragnar Cut.
http://luiscajiga.com/Exhaustm.htm
Click the arrow at the bottom to go to page 2.

I've done the Ragnar Cut, and really like it. Right now, I have on a set of TBR's 6 / 6 .  I've switched back and forth between the stock pipes w/ Ragnar Cut and the TBR's a couple times. The both sound good.

If you decide to do the Ragnar, there's no going back once you do it.. There are some video's on Youtube of the Ragnar cut. It might give you a better idea of how it sounds before you cut.

Some folk's have complained of the sound resonating (<---spelling ?) in their helmet's at highway speed. I haven't had that problem.

EDIT: I have 18" Air Flow tip's on the pipes with the Ragnar Cut. I'm pretty sure they help with the sound.

Welcome aboard lablue.

Where are you located?

From the handle I'm guessing LA and you have a blue bike.
