This is creepy to some, but since the data's being collected anyway I like to have access to it myself. If you wanna see your routes (Assuming you have a smart phone and had it on and on you, this might work with Apples not sure but definitely Androids) go here:

https://www.google.com/maps/timeline

(You'll need to be logged into the same Google account on your browser as you are on the phone in question for this to work.)

Click on the date you did something fun, and see your route. It even tries to figure out what method you were using, walking, bicycling, driving a car, riding a motorcycle, etc... (Not 100% right but gets it often enough)

If you took pics on the ride with your phone, it'll insert them on a timeline on the left, and also highlight stops you made.

An example, from the day the spawn and I did the Taos to Red River to Eagle's Nest loop:

Or the day the spousal unit and I rented scooters and did a lap of most of the island of Maui, including both ends of The Road to Hana:

You can go a ways back in time as well, here's the route the elder spawn and myself made at Inzane Roanoke to the National D-Day Memorial:

Anyway, since Big Brother is already collecting all that info, figured I'd share a way for you to see it yourself as well and take advantage of it too... I've found a lot of people aren't aware of that feature, so wanted to share...

And yeah, the Relive app makes a much cooler video, but for people like me that always forget to start that app until after the ride, this is always on.... Allllllways watching...

I saw a news report in last week that most new vehicles are recording you moves too. Maybe not as easy to access but they did show at lot more info being gathered right down to gps coordinates. So if you plan on a crime spree, use your 80’s pickup truck!

FYI - There are others apps you can use for GPS tracking - the wife and me use Life 360 to track each other. And for those of you with a recent Garmin - the ones that can use the Smartphone link to your phone - You can turn on a tracking feature that you can send to other people. This feature can be turned off/ not activated.

I  checked my timeline ... seems that 2-3 times a week I drive from Houston to my dog training classes off the western coast of Washington.

I thought it might be a fluke, but I was driving there back in 2015 as well .....

I'm barely smart enough to use my phone as a phone. I wouldn't stand a chance doing what you suggest. But it made me think of a guy I work with. His wife was tracking him taking a diversion on the way to work most every day. The said diversion turned out to be a young, single woman's apartment. I suppose he should have turned his phone off. But you know how people are today. They are attached to it 24/7.

(I think if things get to the point you feel a need to track your spouse, things are probably shot already)

Wouldn't it be easier to do your dog training in the Gulf of Mexico versus the Pacific Ocean ?  Smiley

Question, Does it still track you with the phone off?  I heard that they still ping the towers, so if you are planning a crime spree, you should also remove the battery (if possible, I know it's a hassle on some phones.)

Serk,

That Is Freaky, but since we are being tracked via every keystroke, computer and smart device its cool, but still weird.
