So on my 98 tourer one of the bolts that attaches the saddlebag to the saddlebag Mount is stripped. More accurately the nut that the bolt goes into is stripped and I need to tap it out. Question is does anybody know the size of the bolt or the tap that I'll need. It's one of the bolts on the bottom of the saddlebag but again the bolt seems fine it's the nut that forms part of the mount is stripped.

I think it is a 6mm x 28mm bolt. I would suggest getting a longer bolt so that you can put an additional nut below the stripped out nut.

Don't lose any of those collar bushings, they like to run away.

Go to https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500ct-a-valkyrie-tourer
and identify the bolt in question on the parts breakdown. Check that number in the parts list and it will likely give you the size. Let us know which part number you are having trouble with and we can help you figure out the thread pitch. My lower one that mounts the saddlebag rail at the crash bar stripped like you are saying and I just drilled it out and put a nut on it as was mentioned earlier. If you want to thread it again, you could get a helicoil kit. You will then drill it out to a larger thread size and install the helicoil which will give you the original tread pitch again. I chose to use a nut because there was clearance and that bolt is a bear to install with threads. much easier to put a nut on after it is in place.

Never even thought of that. D'oh
Way simpler to drill out and put a nut on.

Thanks

On my IS, I have two of the bottom nuts that have stripped out.  Did as mentioned above, got longer bolt and nut plus lock washers.  Hold great till need to take them off.

6 mm.  When ever you are in doubt as to how to match a bolt, just take a good one with you to Lowes, or Home depot, and use there sample plates mounted in the hardware area of the bolts and washer section. I often have a handful of misc. Bolts, and need to identify whether they are standard or metric,

Correction, just finished working on something else, all 6 mm. Pretty sure, ... they are 6mm. If not they are 8. My bags and hardware are buried in storage right now, or I would get a bolt out and tell you for sure.
