Whatcha plan on carrying there? Galco makes a nice one for S&W J-Frames.....nice thick fleece/sheep/fury piece on part of the inside of the strap for comfort....believe there is an optional "garter" strap for above the calf for additional support....they seem to work well (don't try it wearing shorts! )....access to gun is slower; if you drop down to one knee to draw or almost any atempt to get the gun will put you in a off-balance position.....work well when driving a car (decent access while sitting)...I believe they can be a viable option but do have limitations.....

What weapon do you have to holster? If it's a .380 you can slip it in a back pocket or waistband easily enough.

I don't understand the rationale behind carrying your primary defensive weapon in a ankle holster. Do you really think you'll have time to bend down, pull up your pants leg, get the pistol out of the holster and on target before your threat has time to use his weapon??? I can see carrying a back-up in a ankle holster, but that's about it. If it's small enough to carry, there are better ways of concealed carry that will actually give you a better chance to defend yourself, IMHO.

I have a PT-911 and I don't think I would want that on my ankle. I do have a holster for it with a spare magazine that fits on top, and either I keep it under a jacket on my waist or in the vehicle I'm in. I keep a small .380 in my back pocket at all times tho.... being right handed my wallet is in my left rear pocket and my .380 is in my right rear pocket (it kinda ads balance). I like the way the Taurus shoots. My full size Ruger P89 has a 15rd magazine, but I have that in a to go case with some 20rd mags and even some 30rd mags. A bit too big for concealed carry. I have been looking at getting a KelTec PF9 for concealed carry, if my dealer would just get it in stock.

I have a Keltec P3AT with laser sight that I carry all the time with me, front pants pocket. I have a Keltec PF9 as well, but it's a little big for front pocket carry. I have a IWB holster for it, but nothing beats the P3AT for easy concealed carry. You forget it's there. I just wish it was a 9mm and not a .380 so it had better knockdown power.

I am wanting a PF9 and understand it has a front rail for a laser sight. I would prefer a rear pocket carry and I did try one of the PF9s in my back pocket and it fits (but it didn't have a laser sight). I have the AMT 380 for the rear pocket but it can be a bit heavy at times and I would rather have another common caliber (9mm). I think the PF9 would fit the bill (and pocket). Curious to know if you have had any issues with it and how it shoots. I had a P11 but it was an older used one and did not shoot well, and was too big for pocket carry.....

If that if your first line of protection, then it is the best way for the perp, to kick your teeth out, when you bend over or kneel down to draw you weapon.

When the Iron Pigs MC and the Hells Angels fought at the Loud American Roadhouse in 08, the Iron Pig drew from his ankle and shot the HA that had him on the ground. Then again I assume law enforcement train that way.

My thoughts exactly! I have an ankle holster for a J frame S&W 38 but its only carried as a backup. Stopping to get a primary weapon from an ankle holster = sitting duck IMHO.
