My knob is no worky ? It was very sluggish feeling last fill up and after many turns I got it back to zero but it ain't gonna do it again I'm sure. Has anybody else have this happen or heard of it ? Hopefully I can take it apart and see why. I have a feeling I recently zero'd the speedo while rolling down the road after a fill up.   Embarrassed

Deep inside the knob is a VERY small Phillips screw. It may have come loose and backed off the shaft a bit. I'm talking about an instrument sized Phillips. If you have a set of JIS screwdrivers, even better. Be careful, it's embedded in plastic.

Well like a lot of us I use mine as my gas gauge but I try not to zero it up very often just because I'm afraid of something like that happening so I do the math instead if I can.

It is made of plastic and may have stripped, the screw is very small and does not come with the new part. I ordered a new knob last year as mine had cracked and wasn’t grabbing when trying to reset the mileage to zero.

Thanks for the replies, I took the knob off this eve and yes that screw is tiny and the knob is cracked. Here is a pic of the screw in the crack !  I will order a new knob, can't help but wonder what caused it to crack, maybe when I reset it while rolling or is there more wrong deeper inside the speedo. All I can do for now is get the new knob and try it out. I will report back.  cooldude

I'm always very slow and careful when resetting to 00000.

Yeah that's why I actually avoid resetting mine. On my other bike that knob fell off and stupid thing was like 20 bucks

Be careful to not over tighten the new knob.  I had to replace my petcock knob due to cracking but I’m pretty sure it was my fault not a defect.

Mike, could a piece of shrink boot around that shaft keep the new one from cracking ?

That sure wouldn't hurt Cowboy and there does seem to be room even though the knob is not perfectly centered on the housing. New knob is on and new screw, all is working again. I wonder if there is a place to lube this to make it easier to reset. For now I will take it easy on resets and will  not try to reset while rolling. About 12 bucs for knob and a buc 40 for lil screw from Partzilla.
