The thread might be common, but...No!  They are not a common screw.  They are a "shoulder" screw and you won't find them at the hardware store.

Go ahead and get something from the hardware store and you WILL split the plastic on those panels. That's why they are a shoulder screw...keeps from tightening on the plastic instead of against the nut/insert.

Actually, the shoulder is a washer.

This is one I took a picture of during my recent build project.

I prefer an allen head and, yes, you can get them at almost any hardware store.

Wrong screw.  I think...because I no longer have them on my fairing, what you are showing is a screw that holds the air deflectors that are on the underside edge of the fairing.  (Edit) Just checked a parts fiche.  What you are showing Is for those air deflectors.  And that screw should be a shoulder screw also but different, larger head.

If it's the wrong screw for those panels, then someone in the past removed and replaced it from the air deflectors. I'll look them over the next time I take the inside fairings off.

As for a screw with a shoulder, I was going to use a rubber o-ring. Allows for a shoulder and gives a little compression to act like a washer. Just tighten till it touches, no more.

I've read in the past where guys put a little o-ring on a screw for the speaker panels.  If it stays tight and works, then ...  Wink

if it strips then you are not using a JIS screwdriver to remove it.
These are NOT Phillips screws they are Japanese Industrial Standard Screws.
Special tip fits better than a phillips
