Hey Folks, 2001, 26k miles. Always lubed the wheel and pumpkin splines at tire change. PO advised he never had the final drive off. I will remove and check the cup and driveshaft. No telling what I will find, although runs real smooth. My question is while apart should I go ahead and remove the swing arm and  u-joint and grease the tranny output shaft and check the u-joint? 26k miles isn't many just didn't know if the output shaft is a problem area like the rest of this driveline. And I've heard so many opinions on the use of Molly in the cup and driveshaft splines, is it necessary? Or will a good Marine waterproof grease suffice? Maintenance will always be done around 10k miles. Not trying to open up a can of worms here, knowing this is a sensitive topic. LOL

u don't need to remove the swing arm. the shaft slides out and just remove the u-joint then after pulling the cover back.

So, sounds like enough room to slide the u-joint to the rear and remove out of the boot space?

I'm a proponent of moly paste and grease per the manual.

drive shaft/U-joint gets the grease and I mix the paste and grease together for the splines in a 2:1 ratio.

make sure the three final drive O-rings are replaced, some do it every tire change, I've done it every other.
last change I used the red-eye upgraded o-rings. should be good for four tire changes.

At 26K you don't need to remove the U joint but it can't hurt. The drive shaft splines from the joint back to the input cup takes moly GREASE. Honda defines this as 2-3% moly. Valkvoline Durablend is 3% moly already. No need to mix. A member (RATDOG) in Seattle use to make a schmooie of Moly paste and Bel Ray waterproof grease. That worked for him. I used Bel Ray as is with no issues on the wheel splines. My last Valk I sold had 155K with the original splines with no wear.
