My friend's 2014 Valk's gas cap cover doesn't latch when pushed down. It's in my garage, (I'm putting a new front tire on it) and figured I'd try fixing it for him. So far all I have done is spray a little WD-40 in there and work the catch up and down. It does pop back up on it's own. I'm guessing I have to take the whole thing off, I did see a thread about that, but can anyone tell me what to look for after that?

EDIT- I just realized that there is a key to open it on the pod. Stuck the key in and it barely moves. Is that normal or is the cable froze up or something?

EDIT #2- Just talked to him on the phone. He had the pod off that has the keyhole. Maybe the cable needs rerouted? Any tips appreciated!

Thank in advance.

I saw that thread when I searched it. I took the pod off where the key goes, and the cable was in it's holder, so I guess taking the other end off is next. Thanks for the help.

I remember having this problem when I first took my tank off and put everything back on. The cable itself can be finicky to get lined up and is easy to bind with pressure, but the biggest issue came from lining everything back up piece by piece. The plastic can shift a little bit as you put it all back together.

I've taken it all apart a few times now and even replaced the chrome with all black. Take it apart, make sure the latch itself isn't gummed up, and then push/pull the cable to see if it moves freely. IF all that is good, it is the plastic itself being slightly out of alignment.

Thanks for the help. The cable was out of it's "holder" at the gas tank end.
